The old stuff has more character to it and doesn't sound too commercial like some of the stuff nowadays which follows a formula used by the sort of artists that appear on "Clubland" compilations and AATW records. The image of hardcore nowadays has changed a bit and its nice to listen back to the old tracks for a bit of nostalgia and remind ourselves of hardcore's roots.

I couldn't agree more.
I also agree. it was like a hippie generation, all electronica back then. ppl listened to it, and didn't care what ppl thought bout them listenin 2 it. and it was just fun and silly and just ultra-positive.
Also, u can sing along to most of the tracks. being able to memorize the lyrics to such songs as eye opener, heart of gold, shooting star, and countless others makes it more memorable, and you become nostalgic when singing them to this day.

I just love it.
The fat hardware synth sounds, not just hoovers, but so much more, layered squares, chimes, piano, very quite varied and original imo. Definitely original. I love the whole cheesy feel of the music, sounds used, melodies, arrangement, ALL of it.
Love it!

The further back you go the more varied (and interesting) Hardcore gets. The '93-'94 stuff was best where anything was acceptable. Since then the music has got progressively more and more formulaic.

Thre was more Hardcore coming out in the old days so there was more for everyone! Mainstream stuff was harder & more bouncier & there was more 'have a good time' attitude while today it is all 'feel the rush' & 'ride the bassline'

I don't know if there really was that much more Hardcore coming out? What I believe though is that there has always been crappy hardcore coming out, but the only songs we really care to remember from the old times are the good ones! Hardcore is still very varied, which is why there is such difference in tastes from one hardcore fan to another. Some people like breakbeat, melodic, trancy, freeform, bouncy, electro or any other variation of hardcore and some people don't.

There are two key elements, which if both are there make things really stick
1. The time you discover whtever it is- that works for me
2. when there was some sort of change- cutting edge people say on here, good phrase
both of which kind of join together although 92 was more cutting edge and better produced than pretty much any hardcore from the 96-99 era (i refer to the the best tunes from both eras of hardcore- dont get into a debate about it, thats another topic, but i would give the references of 'Comin on strong' by Rhythm section http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=RS71dM58Abs vs for instance heart of gold/ any big tune for sound quality despite the tools available all those years later. And the 91/ 92 stuff was actually new to a slightly greater degree than the later stuff- but thats the ever decreasing amount we can now discover as the years go on. There is a time in everybody's life when they find something new and exciting and that will be their golden era- so unless you got into hardcore in the last 2 years then the best stuff will always be from the 'older stuff' selection. Also, whats that phrase 'time makes the heart Jane Fonda'- something like that, we remember those times as being better than they were as the human mind just does that usually. To me, (and i must be wrong especially with the house stuff) i love the 94-95 era and even earlier--- Viola Wills 'its my pleasure' was the most eciting thing i had ever heard in 91!! Sounds really tame now- http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=fT91SXdm6_0 Jx theres nothing i wont do- (from around 95) http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=MQHIASmcxX0 Diss cuss save the day (later sampled by Billy Bunter) http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=xDMRW1bdHOU and probably the best hi energy tune ever (but just this mix!!) see if you can put up with it for the whole tune- wicked strings, off beat bass, beat edits, choir stabs, vocals, rap, piano, more piano, reverse edits of the riffs, gated vocals, phased bass, check that break at 4:35 http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=2DU7yKpvvEE&feature=related

"Why does everybody love the old stuff???"
....could it be that the 'New' stuff isn't particularly new
and could it also be that anything too different from today's accepted norm is disregarded?
