I think its a good idea and a good price for the work. Spoke to him already and he knows his stuff. I personally think its a good price and a good service. It gives New producers chances to get there work remixed by someone who has had good releases and knows there stuff.

Kurt opened up his studio and it was like 400 quid to have your own work engineered there. So 175 for a remix ain't bad..

The difference between a remix and a bootleg!

You want a remix done of your track and you keep all rights to the track then you pay the remixer - this is the way it is done amongst "pros". Basically you are paying to make your tune more saleable and make you more money - of course you would be expected to pay.

OK, here is how and why it works....

If you, an artist, write a tune then you are entitled to earned royalties and publishing generated ( through album licenses, radio play, etc ).

If an artist or label commisions a remix, then the artist doing the remix is typically paid a flat fee ( there are variations, publishings splits sometimes introduced, but TYPICALLY ). If this track then goes on to earn £100,000, the remixer sees nothing beyond what was originally arranged.

If someone WANTED to remix a tune by someone else, they might approach the copyright holder and request it, and offer up a reduced remix fee or some sort of incentive ( relicensing etc ) or do it for free. That's hardly typical though.

Average remix fees used to be quite a lot higher, but as albums have become more closed it's arguably harder to recoup any advances or remix fees paid and as such the more malleable and enthused talents have dropped their prices accordingly.

This is why you can get a Stormtrooper remix for £175, which is a bargain.

That is pretty cheap..Especially for how good of a producer Stormtrooper is.

And i would always assume that people pay a bigger name to remix their track because its alot more likely to get heard, bought, signed and in most cases be better aswell. Its like having a brand name printed on your track.

I'd like to know where this leaves us @ the end of the day? I'm not saying its not a good deal but how can u tell who's tracks are actually produced & engineered by that person & not just remixed @ 175quid by a big name in the scene?

That's what the track credits are for... tells you producer, remixer, writer, etc

Hah! This isn't confusing.

A remixer gets obvious credit IE:

Artist - Track ( remixer's remix )

Engineers muddle the puddle, however.

I think there were about 5 engineers ultimately responsible for 75% of the hardcore released between 95 and 99

Well it is not a joke at all.
DJ Stormtrooper is an extremely talented hardcore producer and engineer and that pirce on it self is quite reasonable.
Not singling people out, but gammer for example has a remix fee of up and around 500 pound.
