"There is Ultrabeat, two Liverpudlian DJs called Chris and Mike. Chris and Mike are funny, friendly and charming and have a string of hits to their name, notably the 2003 smash Pretty Green Eyes, but, with the best will in the world, more closely resemble plumbers than pop stars, a fact rather underlined by their videos."
This bit had me on the floor!

this bit was also really funny! (I like the word "former" being used)
"There is Darren Styles, a former happy hardcore producer who finds himself, at 34, a slightly baffled teeny pin-up, purveying music that, on the basis of his Clubland live set, often sounds not unlike a Coldplay piano ballad sung in an Essex accent and inexplicably retooled with thumping 160bpm beats"

this just goes to show as always the press aint got a clue about what their writing about.
he is remarkably well informed for someone that doesnt have a clue. I cant believe your not american. havnt you heard of taking the piss?
and umm, its clearly a rave.
It is NOT a rave.
To best describe it, it is most like a concert. It's lame none the less.
And i found that quite an interesting read. Even though this guy is probably well educated, he is unable to explain the simple pleasure that teenage girls/chavs (stereotypical i know) get from clubland. And unless he's been through it, this i a pretty biased 'examination' as he puts it. But **** yeah, get rid of the clubland live tour, its disgusting.

Agreed although i doubt anyone under the age of 60 reads the guardian so they can all just tut and go "the youth of today! what is the world coming to" and be happy.

define 'rave'
you will find the english definition of 'rave' is exactly what the clubland tour is.
if the clubland tour is a 'concert', then what is every big uk hardcore event? as the clubland tour is pretty much the same as any big hardcore event

Theoretically, you're correct.
But if you attend both events you will find more differences than similarities.

Agree 100%.
Anyway, intresting article. Have 2 Clubland CD's myself, and a fair few singles and albums from AATW's artists. Not ashamed for it, but this made me smile:
"If you're over 21, it seems highly unlikely that any of their names will ring much of a bell, unless you've been paying very close attention to the album charts or glued to Clubland TV: Kelly Llorenna, September, Eyeopener, Cascada, N-Force, Darren Styles."
