this just goes to show as always the press aint got a clue about what their writing about.
he is remarkably well informed for someone that doesnt have a clue. I cant believe your not american. havnt you heard of taking the piss?
and umm, its clearly a rave.
It is NOT a rave.
To best describe it, it is most like a concert. It's lame none the less.
And i found that quite an interesting read. Even though this guy is probably well educated, he is unable to explain the simple pleasure that teenage girls/chavs (stereotypical i know) get from clubland. And unless he's been through it, this i a pretty biased 'examination' as he puts it. But **** yeah, get rid of the clubland live tour, its disgusting.
define 'rave'
you will find the english definition of 'rave' is exactly what the clubland tour is.
if the clubland tour is a 'concert', then what is every big uk hardcore event? as the clubland tour is pretty much the same as any big hardcore event
well i dont like new hardcore & no raves that iv ever been to have been like have been described in that article as whittle1 said But if you attend both events you will find more differences than similarities.

Interesting article but like Whispering pointed out, the bit where it says if you are over 21 it is highly unlikely you'll have heard of Kelly Llorenna, Darren Styles is quite funny, considering these acts have made music for 13 years, Llorenna even had great success with N-Trance who had a few big commercial hits in the mid-90s.
Indeed the Clubland scene is not seen as something to promote by the general music media as they think of it as music for 'kids from council houses'. Despite this the Clubland scene is still popular. I remember when Scooter's latest album went to No 1 in the music album charts and knocked out Madonna and that caught a lot of people by surprise considering Scooter have had very little media exposure in the UK.

I dunno, he seems to know the layer of 'popcore' that everyone knows about, but not the real underground hardcore that we listen to. I'm sure he doesn't even know the names Sy, Hixxy, Vinylgroover or Billy Daniel Bunter. Also, I didn't see even a mention for Prodigy in there, the most famous 'hardcore' group ever (well, they were hardcore to start with, at least =P)

this bit was also really funny! (I like the word "former" being used)
"There is Darren Styles, a former happy hardcore producer who finds himself, at 34, a slightly baffled teeny pin-up, purveying music that, on the basis of his Clubland live set, oftensounds not unlike a Coldplay piano ballad sung in an Essex accent and inexplicably retooled with thumping 160bpm beats"

remeber that the author is taking the piss out of raves. while he is going over the top, he is still fairly close to the mark. try and look at it from the point of view of someone who doesnt go to raves and you should be able to understand.

Interesting about the 21 comment. while older people might have heard of him, a 21 year old at a Sydney all age rave (75% of the happy hard raves in sydney) would feel somewhat like a dirty old man. past the age of 21 people wonder what your doin at raves, expect you to go to electro festivals or stick to clubbing or whatever

Its a matter of debate tbh.
I went to HTID 29 last night, and i tell you i was actually thinking about this topic (sad) but i'm starting to sway slightly towards agreeing with Wilkey now.

in away i can see where ya coming from, but as im never in the hardcore arena at raves its different for me i guess. i do however totally agree with what you said about the 21 year old comment thats a load of crap what the author said init.

At least Clubland arn't coming down south... Not one mentian of the scene s routes in the lates 80s which it seems that evryone forgot that the youth of then were taking these evil drugs and dancing all night to werid (yet would soo be good) music in the middle of knowhere.
Clubland is not real Hardcore or rave music, it is club music & I myself have grown out of it. Also saying anyone under the age of dosn't know who Ultrabeat is is being silly as Ultrabeat where big back in 2003 with Pretty Green Eyes (no mention of the original)
Does Scotland have the 'Scouse House' scene as I have seenyoutube videos of 'Neds' at raves or clubs like 'Fuber' listening to Donk.
I like the old Scottish stuff when it was real Hardcore... (New mixes coming in January with real Happy Hardcore & Bouncy Techno)
In fact im making my own Bouncy Techno tune! It will be better than silly old Clubland...

im just gettin in to the rave scene now, been listening to the music for years though.
i have to say i enjoy myself, but the raves tend to lean towards house or trance.
can't wait for etd.LOVE though, Scott Brown & Luna-C are gonna be there!!! :D
