not much of a thread this people...more of a question/observation
Should it not be called "happy hardcore nation" iv noticed they have dropped the "happy"
from a lot of CD`S now...why?
I mean...you could walk in and buy 2 hardcore titled cd`s and one would contain
Brisk...Ham...Dougal....Hixxy...etc and the other would contain
Neophyte... The Stunned Guys... Tommyknocker... Nosferatu...etc
But both very different genres of hardcore
If they keep the term "Happy" then people know what they are getting
the reason im saying this is because a few months back my aunt was told to buy a new
cd for my niece "birthday" she wanted a hardcore cd dont know what one
she wanted one with HIXXY.. etc on it....but she came back with one that had
Tommyknocker.. etc..on it
To be fair to my aunt they both were called Hardcore "Something" cant remember title (she bought 2 CD`s)
i told her it was a happy hardcore CD she wanted...she said i wish i knew that
because i saw ones there that had happy in the title...
So why do some have it and some dont ?

there is so many different styles in hardcore nowdays which is fantastic but i would prefer it to be all under one name HARDCORE

I would like to know where your aunt goes shopping! to get a UK album with Tommyknocker ect on it is amazing with the word "happy" in its title! please let me know! I can drive!

hardcore is one genre be it uk, dutch, spanish, japanese, finish or whatever. happy to me means old skool hardcore. hardcore isnt produced like it used to be so isnt happy hardcore.

I said they dont have the name "Happy" in them ...
Just like "Hardcore Nation 2009" doesn`t have "Happy" in the title either
Not sure what shop she bought them but it was in Glasgow somewhere...

Happy to me means anything released with Hixxy...Dougal...etc
no matter what year it was released.
so if the music produced isn`t HappyHardcore anymore then this site
needs a name change "HappyHardcore.com"

I like for it all to be under one name: Hardcore. You just got to look at the artist on the album. If the cd was a full Gabba cd, then I can understand your view on adding a "Gabba" title on it. Happy Hardcore typically describes the 90s era, but I still refer to today's "UK Hardcore" as Happy Hardcore since I think it's pointless to add the "UK" since it's always came from over there anyways. I think keeping the "Happy" term gives it it's own special title. :) That's just me though, and dont try to argue with me because I wont give in, but I do know to difference in the old and new.

I really don't think it has changed that much over the years. Synths have evolved, but to the newbie ear, it's still "way too fast and happy" music.

I dunno why theres a debate here. Its not happy hardcore because that isn't made anymore. Its UK hardcore and its not just called that because its from the UK. All of that happy hardcore was stopped being made in about 1999, nothing today sounds anything like it. Its more trance or other influences. Just look at the Bonkers series for example, Hixxys mixes and how its changed.

for many years...
and yet, there are still happyhardcore titled CD`s and this site is called happyhardcore.

yeah, I know what you mean Catjam. I suppose when people refer to Happy Hardcore now, people think of old skool but when you say UK Hardcore people automatically think of the nu age stuff.
I also think that these big name record labels are trying to squash all types of hardcore into one to suit their CD's. This is never the way hardcore was intended & the diversity of styles is what keeps hardcore alive in my eye's
Also, when you said the site should change name I don't agree because this is an old skool site & I think the title takes us back to a simpler time of hardcore. To me, this is one of the only sites that still has a connection with the old skool ways, wether it be through members or just the site as a whole, IMO a lot of other sites just don't have the history......yet

to be honest - i have to agree with catjam
though i havent seen any cds with the title "happy" hardcore on them since 2001, perhaps if you could post a few of the covers of ones from the past 3 years that have "happy hardcore" in the title for us?
that would clear that up :) - im not so sure how reliable a source your aunt is...
anyway i guess the reason its still called "happyhardcore.com" is because thats practically the most popular and widely known genre of the hardcore dance genre - incidently im pretty sure you can also get to this site through a few differnt names...and happyhardcore.com own a few other domain names (happyhard.com is one)
funnily enough, if you call it happy hardcore, there are some people who will go ab-so-lutly nuts (like when you tell people there are other turntables other than technics 1210s)
reason being calling it "happy hardcore" makes it sound girly, and hard men dont want to sound like they listen to girly music...like calling chuck norris "pinky misses sissy pants"
happy hardcore used to just be attached to the fast genre of dance music 170bpm blah blah
but since the "nu-skool" sound came in it got separated to just "hardcore" or "uk hardcore" <--calling it uk hardcore always seemed a little elitest to me, plenty of other countrys make the same styles
just to define the difference
*edit* i was able to find just 1 cd in almost 6 years that was had "happy" hardcore on the front of it....though i did learn somthing new..mr hard trance steve hill mixed a hardcore cd!..interesting

you are right,the term "happy" isn`t in many titles...thats my bad.
but i think im gettin mixed up because i have seen it on cd`s,i just noticed on one iv got
thats just titled "HARDCORE" but written at the bottom in smaller writing
6CD`s of the happiest hardcore...
anyway...i think anything done by HIXXY...STYLES..etc will still be happyhardcore
to me anyway...
i know people will disagree...but thats how i saw it years ago,
and just gettin back into the scene again "Recently" from 1999 when i stopped going
to raves etc...i still see/hear it as happyhardcore..
And on a wee side note..the dutch have done the same,they have all but dropped
the term "GABBA" you dont see that on CD`S as much either...
most of there cd compilations have just hardcore in the title also,they seem to be dropping
the term GABBA for the simple...classic plain old "HARDCORE"

ive noticed that the term happy hardcore is more or less used by people in the states that just dump it all into one name and that's happy hardcore.
