Drum and bass influences have been used in hardcore for a good while i think. But Bassline? I've heard no "warp-warp-warp" in hardcore? You sure about that?
For me 2008 has been quite poor. Way too many male vocals like spoox said and way too much bad Electro-core. On the other hand some amazing stuff from RFU and er..... lol that's genuinely the only label i can think of at the mo that deserves a mention. Hardcore in 2008 has been a bit lacking, but i have heard plenty of great breakbeat stuff coming out. Loads of great gabber and dark drum & bass being released aswell so im happy.

I honestly only started listening to hardcore in June or something so I would say it's been a great year for me!!!
Although I don't know a lot of the new stuff that has come out.

2008 was a good year for certain labels!
I loved every single released on Essential Platinum this year, from EPP046 to EPP052. The Tunnel, Rock This, Diskoteka, Wii Go Crazy, 2 Turntables & Right Here By My Side were all stand-out tracks for me. I know some people dislike the electro influence shown by certain artists, but I find some tracks in that style very catchy, especially Diskoteka.
Next Generation/Blatant Beats showed some good stuff, like the vocal tracks from Ham & Donna Marie and the amazing Guiding Light by Fracus. I'm sad to say Vagabond/Dreadhead wasn't at the top of his game imo.
Still to this day, I haven't been disliking one single release from the Raver Baby camp. 2008 was quite productive, compared to the dry spell in 2007 after the release of the 6 big EP's in 2006, and I'm really glad Styles & Breeze have started their own label, junkbox & futureworld, to help maintain a reasonable productivity. Amazingly though, they still only release a small percentage of their whole catalog.
My favourite albums of 2008 were True Hardcore 2, Hardcore Addiction and HTID, but I must say that I listened to Clubland Xtreme Hardcore 4, Bonkers 17 and Hardcore Underground 2 just as much, even though they were released a year earlier.
Those are my main highlights, but we all know tons of other things happened in the Hardcore scene, good and bad... Let's make 2009 an even better year for Hardcore ;)

Oh, I almost forgot!
My favourite track of 2008 (well, released in 2007 on cd, but in 2008 on 12") is Hixxy - Sacrifice (Dougal & Gammer Power Mix).
Nothing compares to the feeling this track gives me. It's like Fires in the sky all over again!

Yay! another what's darren style's worst tune thread! That's what happened best in 2008, these annoying Darren Styles threads. It's just so constructive and interesting, I couldn't see any thing better to discuss!
Seriously, what's up with people only saying what they hated most in 2008? Who cares!! Tell us what you liked best! Who knows, maybe some of the producers reading these boards will listen to you and let it influence their music in the direction you want! I highly doubt Darren Styles reads these boards anyway, it's not exactly his fanbase.
And no offense Kathryn, but if you didn't like a single song this year, I really wonder what you're still doing here.

Er, two people made negative comments about Styles how's that turned it into a Darren Styles hate thread?
