I watched an American football game once.

I've never been so ****ing bored in my whole life. I wanted to eat my own face.

Each to his own, though.

i'd imagine that's because you have next to no idea what you're watching. i don't at all mean that in an offensive way, it's just that when people don't understand a sport, it's boring as hell to watch because its just a bunch of people running around. for example i absolutely love baseball, games last over 2 hours on average, but i grew up playing baseball and so the intricacies of the game are enthralling to me. people that have never played baseball or don't really appreciate the game just won't want to watch it, because it's nothing more than 9 guys on a field trying to catch a ball and one guy trying to hit it.

Nah i semi-know the rules... I just think it's too slow moving.

Same reason why i don't like cricket.

yea and in american football we don't fake our injuries either

also, american football is more than just the game itself. it's about the crowd too. they are intense, but not violent.

if you watch college football, you'll c how more into it ppl are when they watch it. my college has a crappy football team, but i follow what UT does all the time

semi-knowing the rules doesn't do it, there so much underlying the basic rules. it's hard to explain, but there's an intuition you get about sports when you really understand and love them, and without that i feel like so much of it is just mindlessly watching people running around.

what school did/do you go to latininxtc?

So?

Going off what Meph said, I know some of the rule's of baseball. And I still can't watch that sport, or soccer or tennis for that matter! I grew up around Basketball n Football, and I enjoy it more then any other sport.

I go to Sam Houston State University. school of about 15k students it's 80miles north of Houston. we are actually about 55 miles away from Bryan/College Station and we have a lot of A&M fans here, but i am not 1 of them. altho i don't like A&M, I will root for them before i root for OU sooners

I was in Australia and I didn't know the rules of cricket at all, but I liked it, though one match takes 4 or 5 days to complete.

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Who_invented_the_game_of_Football

Question: Who invented the game of Football?

Answer:

Throughout history people have played sports involving ball and using hands, feet and sticks.

Each local area had their own rules so there was no definitive global definition of any sport.

In the 1300's the king of England Edward III banned football, hockey and handball. This shows a difference between sports using the feet, hands and sticks. So football was traditionally played using the feet and not the hands.

In 1863 at Cambridge university a group of Englishmen formed the Football Association and invented football.

After this event many other "versions" of football were invented. Rugby and Australian rules were the first. In north america rugby and football were both played, and a hybrid of these two sports was invented called Gridiron (american football)

The first sport called football with global rules is football, other sports using the term football have words placed in front such as rugby, Gridiron (american) or Aussie Rules (Australian) or Gaelic (Irish) to differentiate them from football.

There remains only one football accepted by FIFA and the Olympic committee.

So American rugby is apparently Gridiron, not football.
This solves the question for me

"we invented it, so we can call i what we like"

using that logic, the americans invented "american football" and they chose to call it that

so they can call it whatever they like :)

and regardless of what you WANT it called, it IS called "American Football"
regardless of how many of you WANT to call trance and DnB "techno", it's not...

so deal with it :)
