I understand what your saying and obviously in America you wouldn't say 'American Football' all the time as that would just be daft.
In "American Football" what are the main associations called?
1. FA - Football Association
or
2. AFA - American Football Association
If they appear under the title AFA then i'd presume the whole US Football in general, as a sport, would be classed as American Football & not what Americans would call just simple 'football'
I'm not trying to come across as if I know all about this subject but i'd like to know what it's classed under as a whole. Just because american's call it football doesn't mean that it isn't labeled as 'American Football'
What i'm trying to get at is, In England, the head organisation is called FA - Football Association
They aren't called EFA - English Football Association
Its just something that i've thought about before & mabey someone could help explain this for me

wow, wrong.
it's the NATIONAL football league, and it's got two divisons, the american football conference and the national football conference.
it's a series of mergers, and was originally two separate leagues, the NFL and AFL. the NFL was first, the AFL was a competing league. AMERICAN in the AFL has nothing to do with it being differentiated from other countries.

the weird thing is, is that in the united states, there is only one level of professional football. everything else is amateur. there are more "american football" teams internationally that play professional level than in the united states as a whole.
the governing body is named international federation of american football

that's true, but as with most other pro sports, european leagues are where players who aren't good enough for the american pro sports go. the only reason that it's the international federation of american football is that it's headquartered outside of the united states and runs the international leagues, and so you can see why they need to make the distinction.

dya reckon there will be a massive sports summit and we'd all agree to swap sport names, so soccer is football and only football, and american football is soccer and only soccer?

once again, there's no way any team anywhere in the world would be able to challenge the winner of either the superbowl or world series, or even come close
professional baseball and football leagues outside of the MLB and NFL respectives are jokes comparatively
Your point is invalid, wrong and based upon ignorance!
/me notices your nationality....

You seem to have taken one to many blows to the head or maybe you're just borderline retarded. Name one international sport that isn't played predominantly outside of your country are the U.S any good at? Football? Rugby? F1? Name some others that you're good at that other countries give a shit about.
Even at the sports you specialise you're perennial underachievers. Way to go getting the Ice Hockey final at the olympics in 2006. Oh wait...
You barely beat Spain in last years olympics to take Gold. Your country sucks at sports so you make up your own and then brag about how good you are at them.
You can't handle proper racing so make a ****ing race consisting of 500 left hand turns and think it's great.
Here's a sport your country is good in

No. Just ignorance, especially misplaced ignorance. It infuriates me. I live by the slogan "We Are All One". I believe borders and nationalities are just used to segregate us and cause hatred to further agendas.
EDIT: I don't even follow sports. Especially football. Only sport I follow anymore is MMA.

And racist.
Hatred of a country and someone for their nationality is xenophobia
I neither hate American's or Meph. I hate the ignorant drivel he is spouting is all. Hate alot of the drivel that is spouted in this country aswell.

all the stuff said
I was referring to the "american" sports, baseball football basketball. i'm sorry i didn't clarify, that's entirely my mistake and I can see why you'd be angry. again.. my mistake. i'm fully aware we get our asses handed to us in a great number of sports.
for the record i hate nascar as well
in regards to world competitions in football basketball and baseball... pro teams don't allow their players to compete. baseball for example is a bunch of 20 year olds who are at the low levels of pro baseball, nowhere near the majors. same with football. look at the freaking roster from that link you sent, none of those players will go on to play in the NFL... that's nowhere NEAR the best players in the game... when we field teams of the best players, as we did in basketball these past olympics... the results speak for themselves. it's a simple fact that in football, baseball and basketball, players from the US go abroad when they aren't good enough for the NFL, MLB and NBA. when guys are too old to play in the MLB they go to japan. when basketball players don't get drafted out of college to NBA teams they go to european leagues. this is simple fact.
if you'd actually like to continue this discussion, i could talk ALL DAY about minor league baseball. it's clear you have little to no idea about a lot of what you're talking about, and saying that i'm spewing "drivel" is quite hypocritical, especially because what i said was a direct comment towards the sport of american football, and what i said, in context, is factually correct. instead, you took it out of context and are apparently attempting to paint me as some half retarded patriotic nascar loving idiot. so please take the "i can read wikipedia and i think i know everything" attitude elsewhere. you know nothing about american sports, and while i don't expect you to, at least try to refrain from lecturing me about them because you can't.
