this really is a pointless argument, because it's opinion. It's about as valuable as having a discussion on religion. There's no conversation that goes on, just everyone taking shots at each other and stating that their own opinion is right.
Sorry iono, i usually agree with you, but you can't make the analogy of PC's Vs. Mac's based on mercedes and ford. It's not the same prinicple. Mercedes are luxury cars - they're marketed towards wealthy people... That's their demographic. Ford is the total opposite. They're marketed to be affordable cars.
MAC's are not marketed to be affordabe AND they're marketed towards teens (greatly). Not only this but they ARE very expensive for what they do.
FACT. You can build a PC with the equivalent same parts for 1/3 -1/2 the price. I personally don't think it's worth it, but obviously some people do, so they can justify paying the extra money. Note that this is opinion, subjective, and it in no way makes a MAC better.
It's just preference. MACs and PC's both have their ups and downs. Neither is strictly "better". They're both used well for different things.
In saying that though, buy a decent enough PC OR MAC and you'll never push it to it's limits. They're not that different.

Have had this conversation so many times over so many years, before a lot of you even knew what computers were
or more to the point, an operating system,
and, having been an IT manager using both Macs and PCs professionally I actually know what I'm talking about.
It has absolutely nothing to do with opinion or prejudice.
It's simple experience.
Nothing more.
but, as the old saying goes, "Convince a man against his will, he's of the same opinion still."
and C Cell, sarcasm is only successfully used by wise men.

I like being able to update my hardware without spending $3000 every other year on a new machine.

Yeah agree, Mac's are made for professional things, PCs are just for home use, playing video games and stuff like that, well you know what I mean.
I do everything on my mac, Photoshopping, Music, Webdesign etc.. and it's like it's made for. When I'm looking for new Photoshop tutorials on the web, and it shows some screenshots or even a screen capture video which shows how to draw a car ( for example ), then you always see that the guy who made the tutorial is using a mac, you notice that on the screens.

But surely one could argue that some opinion is based on experience?
I'm of the opinion that MACs aren't as good as PC's because of the experiences ive had with the school computers. Since ive had my own PC i've never had any problems really.
Can't justify "upgrading" to a mac for a few thousand extra bucks.

Ah, who cares.
I'd still rather use a PC because I've never had a problem with it, I built mine to be a hella lot more powerful and cheaper then a Mac, and I can play my games on it when I'm not doing something with music.
Buy what you want, but just remember PCs are flexible in price in building it yourself, then getting a Mac. And that's fact.
On the term of laptops, that's just preference and how much you wanna spend.

Keep telling that to yourself, while ill use all my professional software on a windows machine to make a living, because Mac has really bad third party support (mainly cause Apple is trying to build a monopoly far bigger then Microsoft).

the main problem i have with apple and the macs is they are advertising it just like the ipod. they offer all these features that the majority of the ppl will not use. their marketing strategy has really paid off, because now u have all these young adults who are defending macs and ipods when most of them don't konw what they are talking about, and use it in the same way they would use a pc or any other simplistic mp3 player
Ionosphere and DJ Revs u 2 are probably the only 2 on here that are using the macs for what they were intended to do. a person who doesn't use all of that excess programs is completely satisfied with a PC. i know I am.

Absolute ********. So you, one IT manager on earth, prefers Macs. You can't somehow turn that into Macs being unequivocally better than PCs. If that were true, every computer professional would use macs, and don't even try to tell me that's true. You're not an IT god, stop pretending like your opinion of a computer somehow translates to fact.

Neither will text, you know. They're fanboys. Something earth-shattering would have to happen in their life to make them even start to think nicely of windows, linux, etc. boxes.

Research? It's just random crap I've found over time. My image account there is due for a cleaning anyway.

Thank you. That was nasty, very nasty,
but you are absolutely right. I'm not an IT god. I said -

How many IT managers have full experience of both?
I've found that it's very few, which means that I've been lucky enough to properly experience the difference and
know what choice I'd make.

My fathers a mac user, so naturally grew up using mac's. First one (that i was allowed to use) was from the year '91 if i remember right. From the newer ones have used OS 8, 9 and 10. But i'm not a IT manager, i just work with computers 8 hours a day and after that do my own stuff with computers.

Still not sure if this is irony or intended :p

I on the other hand have always thought Mac's seriously dont give you any control. It strip whatever feature they think you dont need, gives easy and simple access to some extremely basic features, but whenever you need to actually do something, its hidden under several menus and what not. They markte their computers to "artist" and "trendy" people that dont really use computers that much, or dont know how to.
