disagree all you like. if someones first exposure to hardcore is HU for example, they are not likely to come back. give them CXH and they will get into it much more than the underground, relatively unknown artists, which they will later progress to as they start getting bored with the commercial.
Most people have a short listening span to HH. couple months at most before they are sick of it. its the ones that stick around that start getting into the underground. the newbies wont and most likely never will, and if you try and force it down their throat they will be gone before you can say "clsm"

whislt i dont disagree with you trimms, the big albums have definatly always been a gateway into hardcore...and the music is not nessicarily bad, though some of it IS.
...i just wanted to throw out there that you are coming from a different side of things and seem to have trouble understanding:
some of us who have been listening to hardcore since the mid 90's (and some earlyer) have watched the progression and the reason behind not particularly liking some/alot of the new stuff that is pushed is because quite simply, its the same stuff that has been thrown out there since 2002, in the sense that you can only listen to so many songs using the same type of synths, the same vocal hooks and the same kicks.
after almost over 6 years of listening to the same WAAA WAAA DAA DAA WAA DAH DAH DAA (and the inevitable) DE DE DE DE DA DAH DAH! synth its just. getting. old. whilst it might be fresh and shiney new to someone who has only just hit on the scene...to many of us its like walking into the same resturant everyday and paying money for the same meal, arranged a little differently on a different colored plate.
i just wanted to say that because you seem to always say your "A" and "B" reasons, but i wanted to throw out my take on it. im guessing you wont add that as "C"
in a sense, to me, its much like supermodels. im sick and tired of seeing skinny women with no tits on EVERYTHING. i like my women with a bit of meat and BOOOBS!!!
and there is nothing wrong with that. :)
as for introducing someone to hardcore (if that were the case) i would certainly not show them JUST commericial stuff first. i would show them the a selection of songs from over the years and ask them what they like the sound of...then take it from there.
most the people i showed hardcore in the states found the commercial stuff laughable as its so cheesy. no wonder why dance music doesnt take off so much in the states when crap like crazy frog got so much media attention. </rant>
on that note, does anybody have the 30min mp3 of me showing my ex the history of hardcore haha

As for showing them a wide variety, go for your life. Personally, i would mainly show them the good commercial stuff - older bonkers, CXH1 (&2?), because thats what they will dig. This is how i started off and guess it would be the same with 80% of the post '02 hardcore followers. If i was introduced with underground stuff first, i wouldn't have given it a second chance. I still dont like most underground HH. I later progressed onto freeform, which took quite a while, and thats pretty much all the hardcore i will now listen to.
I am in the process of converting my female friend to dance music. I start her off with trance and have progressed to older hard trance. Next step will be modern hard trance and then hardstyle (am taking her to defqon), might chuck in some HH on the way. I was into dance (the Wild Gold series were sweet, 2 was my fave) for a few years before i started listening to HH. First time I heard HH i laughed at it. Got into it properly a year or so later when it became a thing in my year at school. But, yeh dont want to overload her with stuff, especially stuff that she wont be ready for or appreciate yet.
As for models I completely agree. I believe females should have some padding on them. Being able to see every rib isnt my idea of appealing.

hehe could have saved yourself some finger tapping, it was entirely aimed at trimms (hense what the C was all about which wasnt in relation to this topic the ABC thing was about trims saying "everyone on the internet seems to hate commercial hardcore because A..." not to do with what a new person should be introduced with.
apart from the the last part where i said i would "introduce" someone by giving them a wide scope to see what they fancied then going from there! :)

Most well known where i live is Hixxy mainly cause he always plays at the same club (which is 5 mins from ma house) every year and everyone always flocks to see him
And also Mr Darren Mew, due to his commercial success
Also Scott Browns known pretty well here and Angerfist
BTW Angerfist is Gabber Techno/Dutch Hardcore, i think him and shady should do an album together
hes sampled him enough!
