It seems like everybody takes email and texting for granite. Sometimes I really wish I could get rid of my cell phone or people could just call me instead of text me. Hell, what did people think when writing letters was popular?

texting is really so impersonal.

and frozt, it's "taking it for granted".

i fully agree with what that archbishop guy says. i try to keep all my facebooking, texting and emails to a minimum, but i think it's also important to have keep up with the times and have all these things (cell phone, email address, FB account). it's also good to balance real life conversations with virtual ones. people will value and remember the real life ones more, it also makes things more meaningful and memorable.

plus, who has time to read status updates of like... 400 people. not me, that's for sure.

First thing I see is head of catholics and I already want to not read this, but I will anyways.

I do agree with the fact that people take these social networking sites and turn them into add contests (personally I've never done this).

What I disagree with is this theory people created that texting/myspace/IM/etc are leading to suicide. It is not the technology that is leading to suicide. It is the people who torment these people that are the problem. The easiest way to put this: If you take away the cell phones and computers, those people are still going to abuse that one person because that is what bullies do. If you get rid of the bullies, then everything is okay, and the person who was being bullied is now no longer being abused.

I don't think any of those points apply to people with common sense.

I totally agree with the view that text and email etc is leading to shallower relationships. In the case of somebody who is already depressed, email and text messages can be taken the wrong way as there is no tone connected to them. This can sometimes lead to suicidal tendencies in those who already have them. Human contact is very important in these situations.

I've been trying more to use voice or in person communication. Mainly because it is so much more personal and more fun!

I agree and read nothing that the Archbishop of Westminster said that isn't completely true.

He wasn't preaching or 'blaming' modern technology but just telling it as it is.

....somebody needs to.

"Wondering whether to make a sandwich or order out.."

Sorry, I don't think I need to know what someone is doing all day on Twitter.
