Is it customary for MC's to use poor microphones?
It seems that every event gives them a poor microphone and their voice is made to sound really bad....
what's up with that?

The microphone is probably good....the poor sound quality is probably due to.....
- Sound technician not used to hardcore and so finds it difficult
- The monitors are too loud
- The MC has a mong of a voice
Or what I find the problem is that hardcore is so loud and the bass is so deep and there are so many sounds in a track that its difficult to hear someone shouting his life story at you down a microphone over the top of it.
If you go to bounce events you can hear them much easier.....perhaps because the music is 'simpler' and the bass is high pitched rather than really deep and drowning
Also another thing, bit off topic but i dont care.........
Ive heard a couple MCs lately on internet radio and they speak down the microphone and have a normal voice and then as soon as they say they are going to kick off, they put this stupid voice on and say stuff like 'Yeah man, hold tight, eveybody locked inside this hardcore show man, yeeeeeahh'
What is the need for the weird almost american voice???? Is there any hardcore MC who just MCs in his normal accent instead of putting on some stupid voice that makes them sound retarded?
I dont want to name names, but I would really love to. Unfortunately I dont rate any MCs in hardcore anymore, they all put on stupid voices, all their rhymes are about how great hardcore is or how great they are, really tedious and boring, and as acidfluxx said, you cant even hear them at events anyway......pointless.
Give me a good bounce MC like Finchy or G anyday, at least they have original rhymes and MC in their actual accent.
Tries desperately not to say who these annoying hardcore MCs are

Phoney accents and irrelevent rhymes do my head in. What happened to the good old days when the MC was there to Gee the crowd up, not come up with some pointless, and/or "funny" rhyme that no-one else finds funny, and is quite often very immature?

could just me an MC who doesnt know how to use a microphone properly. like puts his lips on it, or is way to loud with the mic way to close.
sound technicians in my experience anyway usually dont **** up. they take pride in being able to have everything at the right setting, for anything as a DJ would his mixes, in fact sound guys can be the most annoying people when they go off about their equipment and what it does. so id put more of the blame on the actual MC and his microphone skills.
to address the 'stupid voice' that MC's put on. Most MC's i have come in contact with, and myself included, cringe at the sound of their own voice on a recording. (i know some of the top boys feel the same). so because of this MC's tend to change their voice for the simple fact that they dont like the sound of there own. This in turn has little to do with if a voice is suited to MC as everyone pretty much hates the sound of their own voice. do some take it to far. ya ok sure. i think whats retarted is when they talk normal first AND THEN change their voice. its like who are we listning to?
as for the hold tight, hardCORE, yeeaaa locked in, stuff: i dont get the beef. hate to use her as an exapmle again but have you ever listend to Sc@r on a radio show (i'll just assume you have) then you'll here here say very similar things, all be it in her (i can only imagine) regular voice. is this okay because she is a DJ or is it okay because she uses her own voice or is it not okay? personally i like it when the DJ or MC says things like locked in to kraftyradio.com , DJ so and so, along side MC so and so thursday nights, jump in the chat for a shout out, come on guys!....love this one!.not to mention conversing with the people in the chat. i think it adds to the sense that your not the only one listning to the set, that it IS live, and the people in control are into it. somehow im not sure anyone will agree with me :(

Ive got an opinion on them because I do like MCing, but its just that Hardcore MCs are not as talented as MCs in other scenes, Im sorry but they arent. There are a select few MCs in hardcore who play the big events all the time and say the same rhymes, in bounce for example some great MCs dont get big bookings or when they do its not very often because its rotated.
Like MC Vinnie has just been booked to play Bounce Heaven, a massive event, and about time he got to play there, whereas EM:DMC isnt there.....again, hes missed like the last 2 bounce Heavens.
As for sc@r saying all that stuff, thats fine.....shes a DJ, not an MC. She doesnt get paid to speak, and MC does, so for Sc@r to be able to do just a good as job as guys who get paid to do it, doesnt say much for these guys. They should be able to come up with something else.
Lets say that Storm, Whizzkid and Wotsee all quit MCing tomorrow.....
Who would do the big events???? Im sorry but the nu-breed are no where near as good at rhyming or hyping a crowd. Ive seen alot of the new fellas MC and they just dont get you going. Boring Rhymes, stupid voices, drowned out by good music that doesnt need them.
Whilst I dont like the main 3 I mentioned, they do have plus points. Storm can hype a crowd, Wotsee is the best lyrically, and Whizzkid aint bad at both.
The new guys coming through.......I cant think of a good one.
Odyssey is a good MC btw, he is the only fella I know that can MC to freeform and do it well.

I don't even like songs that have an MC in it. I listened to some HTID events and i think that the MC killed them :(

I think MCing is typically a British thing tbh, not many overseas people like it. Not many British people like it tbh.....in any scene.

Do you mean just bad quality, or heavy distortion? I have to admit, when used correctly, I like some distortion. Makes it feel harder and dirtier (that's what she-*slapped*).

I'm fine with MCs as long as:
1. They're not boring
2. They're not annoying (I'm looking at you, Storm)

i went to a clubland event in yarmouth, and my mate was mcing... sounded suspiciously similar to every other MC lol
i wonder if theres a site with an archive of MC lines?
ps. i had no idea he could mc.. he dan even have an mc name, though lashes calles him 'microfone boy'.
