So the problem is that I can't get any sound from youtube or whatever nor can I listen to streamed songs. This is in firefox.
In IE everything works.
The thing is that I turned sound in firefox off manually via the volum mixer and now I can't get it back.
If anyone have a clue what this can be, I'd apprieciate it.

Per AFB, click on the sound icon in the tray, then click on Mixer. You should be able to change the volumes and un-mute applications. If this is limited to sites using Flash however (like youtube), it's likely a configuration problem with Flash or your browser itself.
Edit: Someone else who uses Opera! :D

Forgot to tell you that I am smart enough to go back to where I turned it off in the first place.
I have it turned on, it just wont make any sound.

My first thought would be codecs but if they work on IE then I've no idea. Thought about re-installing firefox?

No. You think I should do it?
I don't want to lose my bookmarks.

You can export your bookmarks, write down your addons installed, then do a reinstall of FF.
To export:
- Press Ctrl+Shift+B
- Click on Import and Backup
- Select Export HTML...
Once you've reinstalled Firefox:
- Press Ctrl+Shift+B
- Click on Import and backup
- Select Import HTML...
- Select the HTML file you exported earlier
- Your bookmarks are back

Edit: Make sure that you don't install any other addons after you reinstall, and to disable all plugins (there's a difference) except for Flash (or if necessary, reinstall Flash only), and to test a site like YT to see if your sound is back. Plugins and addons can sometimes conflict with each other. If your sound is back, it's just a process of elimination from there.

Wow, nice. Thank you.
When you say plugins, I think firefox disabled some plugins earlier, maybe that did it?
I'll try reinstalling anyway.

the flash activeX thats installed into firefox has become ****ed up
its happened to me a few times - the activeX control for firefox is a different installation than the one for IE
the quickest way to solve this issue is to do an uninstall of flash from your computer using the uninstall tool that adobe/macromedia have on their site
(this is a site more forceful that just the uninstall from programs and features) as this will remove all the reg keys and temp files that a regular uninstallation of flash would leave (a little like the SYMNRT program from symantec, we used to use this all the time at my last job (4 years lead tech at computer repair center) - handy handy! :)
links i hear you call??
uninstaller download:
http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/uninstall_flash_player.exe once downloaded close IE and Firefox and run the uninstaller this will wipe both flash activex installs in IE and firefox do a restart after its finished doing its thing once your computer has restarted - install flash again by going to this link in IE...and once thats finished, visit it again in firefox... http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ that should do the trick

Firefox uses NPAPI, not ActiveX...??? Edit: Not saying that reinstalling Flash is a bad idea.

:P
You can uninstall Firefox with ease Rosin, your bookmarks and cache n stuff are stored in your windows user profile, and those wont be deleted during FF uninstallment.
if you want to make a backup, just copy the %appdata%\Mozilla\Firefox folder
%appdata% points to these folders:
XP: \Documents and Settings\User Profile\Application DataVista: \Users\User Profile\AppData\Roaming\

I haven't done anything yet. I'll try uninstalling flash first and see how it works.
Thanks for the help
Edit: Now that didn't work. No sound yet. Guess I need to try reinstalling firefox.

Now reinstalling firefox didn't work either.
Any of you know what the problem could be?
