Thanks for the insight, always nice to hear from a resident of that powerful sporting behemoth - Canada.
On topic though, USA is probably the best team from their pot, the other two on the other hand are quite decent draws for us, though I don't know why people are writing Slovenia off, they gave as good as they got at Wembley and only lost due to a weird penalty decision, and the USA beat Spain 2-0 last time they played. It's still well within the realms of possibility that England might not even make it out of the group, especially with the way our defence is at the moment...

Good draw all round USA have potential top team in their region.
Australia tough group Germany will be the hardest test for them and Ghana Michael Essien AKA The Bison will be a tough player to beat.
Victor Valdes does not get in the Spain national team 0 caps for his country!

im fairly certain canada does more globaly in sports than the uk right now. we have the hosted the same ammount of olympics even though canada felt like spreading the love around more than one city... we do better than you in winter and as good in summer although maybe not up to your record on the track i. and this is all with 90% of our athelets playing one sport, which if ever a sport belonged to a country it would be hockey to canada, un freaking disputable. like basketball? well we're not great but our 2 time nba mvp who sits with magic and jordan alone with 2 back to back steve nash aint bad. Just because we arnt big on soccer (srry) which btw give us 10 years, we have massive support for the pro tems here both mls AND usl and vancouver is getting a new franchise in 2011. look us up, TFC support = some english good teams even if the product aint quite there yet. we were the only north american team to score against real madrid though. and i saw it go down ;) WHOO lol. its the fastest growing sport in canada AND more kids now play it than HOCKEY nuff said. but ya just cuz we dont play soccer, or rugby...oh now wait lol we DO have quite a decent rugby team too. were 14th ish ranked, and are he best in north america, and we play in every world cup ever, and compete in most. but ya i mean we have the population of california so i dunno, id say we basically kick sporting ass and its what a very large ammount of people spend doing here. there are canadians playing in every major sporting league in the world NHL, NBA, NFL (CFL), MLB, Premier League and every league underneath including semi-pro football. **** we even got one of the best dart players in the world. poker players, golfers, tennis, anything you consider a sport, we probably do it. if we dont do it someone who does just immigrated here and is teaching us! lol
*cough.
England should be top of the group and beat usa, maybe go perfect record. coaching is a huge part of the game, and england now finally have it. the D will be suspect, but hold. after group stages anything can happen we all know this. but im hoping for england all the way...first though my attention is all on Team Canada winning Hockey gold on home ice later this winter...i may not post for like a week if and when we win!
and as for the italian team!*shakes fist. i have always been amazed at the lack of attention drawn to 4 major clubs in italian football caught for ref scandals, the same summer as wierd 94 minute penalties in the world cup, en route to an italian championship

I'm 100% certain you don't. Obviously we can't compete with your basketball team, but basketball isn't big compared to Football, as with ice hockey to cricket. We do better at the Olympics though, better at the Commonwealth games, one of the best national football teams around, biggest football league in the world, 4 of the top 10 club sides, we've won the World Cup, hosted it once and have another bid in the works. Better rugby team than Canada, ditto with Cricket. Tennis you say? Andy Murray. Darts? Phill "The Power" Taylor. Then there's all our F1 drivers. I don't doubt that Canada is something of a sporting nation, but to say you're doing more in sport than the UK is ludicrous.

ok you guys have one player in tennis...what did he win again? as for darts all i have to say is this linkhttp://www.cbc.ca/sports/story/2008/01/01/part-wins.html cricket bigger than hockey? doubtful. more counrties play hockey i think. there is upwards of 10 decent professional leagues around the world, and its in the olympics. i dont believe cricket is. and ftr canada is in the top 15 cricket nations as well. so its not like we dont play it like i said, might be a first generation canadian, but one of us is playing anything you can think ofyour better at rugby, but we arnt half bad was my point, and...i'll even concede the f1 argument as no question you have great drivers, while we dont (at the moment some great drivers in the past, im led to believe there is a next generation commin up). im just saying, if you do it, we do it, if you do it well, chances are we do too, your the best at some stuff, we are the best at some stuff, if you dont do it...we probably do, we play everything here, and with half of the people you have, we seem to be around the same level of skill. we do more, we host everything (olympics, tennis tournys, f1 races ect) we are good at almost everything we touch, and have half the people you do. spread over like 20 times the area. if we dont do more, we deffinelty do not do less...i dunno why im even arguing if i dont support canada i support england or the uk, im just sayin...

*Sigh*
I can't believe you're actually serious.

4 masters, ranked 4th in the world.

quote: cricket bigger than hockey? doubtful.
Nope, it's a fact, Cricket is the second most popular sport in the world followed by Basketball. People forget that it's more popular in the Indian sub continent (1.5 billion) than football is in Europe.
quote: and ftr canada is in the top 15 cricket nations as well.
Still lower than England, so not a point worth making.
quote: we do more, we host everything (olympics, tennis tournys, f1 races ect)
We're hosting the next Olympics, we've hosted the World Cup , Euro 96, F1 races, and I'm pretty sure Wimbledon is a bigger Tennis tournament than anything Canada has to offer.
quote: we are good at almost everything we touch,
Heavily debatable...
quote: if we dont do more, we deffinelty do not do less...
Maybe I'm misunderstanding you. When you say you do more, what do you mean? Do you mean in your day to day lives, or as a nation? I can't comment on how much sport the average Canadian does, but as a nation you're not big in the sports world, not even close.
