I think a good dj is one who works their hardest to push the boundaries of what they're doing. They've gotta realize that there is more to being a dj than playing tracks. If they can't do something, they strive for the ability to do it.

Oh... And rockin a party helps. :p

I feel like unless a DJ is doing something to alter the music, he isn't needed at all. Even winamp has an "automix" button that will fade between songs mindlessly. DJing is all about sampling, looping, effects, beat juggling, and yes, scratching is a HUGE factor, but if you can't do it that doesn't make you less of a DJ. Look at Cotts, he's a great DJ, people love his music, and he almost never scratches.

The job of a DJ is to take great music and make it mind blowing, but at the end of the day he's still just playing other people's music.

Mega LOLz

Honestly. Beat juggling, Scratching, Looping, Sampling, FX? I hate hearing all those things. Totally ruins the music. A good DJ should recognise that all he/she is there to do is play tunes. If you start ****ing about with music that isn't your own in a bid to put your personal stamp on it you fail. I don't want to hear "fwoh-chika-chika-fwoh-fwoh-fwoh-fresh" i wanna hear tunes.

It also helps if they don't use VDJ... *waits for bite*

hahaha ! lmao meathead !

to be honest, in my opinion, i think the most important is the tracklist

a dj have to know wich track he have to use.
of course, the beatmatching have to be perfect too, but if you know how to mix, that won't be a problem

but choose the good track, this feeling, who have it or not, you can't learn that

TBH I couldn't really care less as long as they can mix in time and play fat tunes. All that matters to me.

I think you've just regressed to the point where you will say the exact opposite of anything I say. Absolutely disregarding and real opinion you might have. You can't honestly expect everyone here to believe that you prefer it when a DJ could be replaced by an automixer and a tracklist? A retarded monkey with peg legs and parkinson's can overlap two songs.

If you Master Beatmatching and KeyMatching, move on to the Scratch. WHen you master the basic scratches, master the more complex scratches. When you master complex scratches, Master Beat Juggling. WHen you master beat juggling, learn some party tricks. When you get some party tricks, go back and start doing everything you did before on 3 turntables, then 4 turntables, then 5, then throw a keyboard in the mix, buy a couple drum machines, pull it all together with a mic, and a guitar with a sampler.....

lol.

I meant that someone takes what they are doing, masters what they are doing and try to add something to it. Being a Dj is like anything else in life. It is a constant learning experience. Once you've stopped learning, you haven't reached your peak, you just haven't taken a step back to see what's next (or you have hardstyle/dubstep diva syndrome)! When you think you know everything, someone is bound to come along and show you up.

Too easy. At first i didn't but when i realised it annoyed you so i thought i would this one time :)

Anyway, yes actually i do prefer a DJ to just play the songs. That is my real opinion. Why wouldn't i? Why is that so hard to believe? Why would i want to listen to an egotisitcal clown mangle good music in a bid to impress other DJs? Because that's the only crowd they will be impressing with such "skills", other DJs who too mangle good music, with every beat juggled, every flange thrown over a good part of the track, their heads swell in sync. People who actually like and want to listen to music don't go for that sort of stuff, at least i don't think they do. I don't. Same goes for MCs. They ruin perfectly good music and make it all about them. DJs play other peoples music, i myslef as a DJ accept this fact, and as such should make it about the music not them. They're pointing and clapping jukeboxes, nothing more.

And i don't see what relevence a monkeys' legs being or not being wooden substitues has to it's ability to beatmatch? Explain please.

HellNegative: Please explain this "Dubstep Diva Syndrome". I've looked through the only medical dictionary i have, granted it isn't too extensive, but still i can't seem to find anything along these lines.
