I went on your soundcloud just to have a listen to your new tracks but the first tune made my cringeometer explode. What are the vocals about in this track? http://soundcloud.com/gisbo/gisbo-skyz-real-raverbaby-raving-will-never-end

That track is terrible mate, sorry but it is. The vocals are absolutely awful and I think in a few years you will listen to them and think 'what the **** was I thinking?'

The problem with the internet is, all it takes is a few fanboys saying that a producer is great and the guy is gonna believe the hype. I don't make music myself and wouldn't ever start, but what I do have is an ear for good music. I can sort out the wheat from the chaff anytime, and unfortunately hardcore is absolutely full of chaff at the moment.

I admire the fact that you make a lot of music, but I think you should find your own sound and perfect your production before you put clips up. Quality over quantity any day. Your production needs thickening up and your style needs something that separates it from the rest of the generic 'not as good as Raverbaby' stuff out there, because there is so much of it about at the moment. I'm sure you're not trying to actively copy anyone else, but it sounds like you are.

I'm not here to argue at all, and of course you can tell me to piss off, but if you put clips up on soundcloud then you will have to deal with negative feedback, after all surely that's why you put tracks up? Feedback?

Also, I had a quick look at your album and there are far too many rips on there. Anyone can take an accepalla and put some gay riff behind it. It doesn't take any great skill and in a few months it will be instantly forgettable unfortunately. Do you want to be instantly forgettable, a shooting star that fizzles out after a few months, or do you want to be a respected producer? Not respected by the fanboys, but respected by the major labels, producers and promoters? If you are only making music for 'fun' then no worries, forget everything I've said, but if you want people to say 'that Gisbo is alright man' then I think you should sit back, spend time on a track and improve your production.

Anyway, I'm not up for arguing but I wanted to have my say and I never shy away from it. I am a good guy who runs a label cos I care about this music, so please don't think I am being blunt for the sake of it.

Honestly, PISS THE **** OFF Thumpa! YOU INFURIATE ME! You obivously have no ****ing clue what the hell you're talking about! If Gisbo's stuff wasn't up to par/on point, DO YOU REALLY THINK HE'D BE SIGNED TO LABELS (yes labels!!! MEANING MORE THAN ONE cause you're helmet ass most likely can't count) OR THAT EVEN HOODZIE WOULD GIVE HIM PROPS? You dropped out of the scene for 12 months? Well if you're going to trash talk everyone in your scene, and TRASH up and coming dj's and/or producers, then maybe you don't DESERVE to be part of the scene, ever think of that shit face? Maybe you're just another one of those shallow/jaded ass heads who only goes to events for the drugs? You know NOTHING about hardcore, and if you did, you would be producing yourself. And "not as good as Raverbaby"? Common now, Raverbaby may have been a good label back in the day, but even though they are still around, it's not a label that's as strong as it used to be (needs to make room for the NEW labels that are coming out and trying to make an impression on the hardcore scene). It's all about hardcore TODAY, not yesterday. People need to move over and make way for the upcomers and the new generation of hardcore producers, for if it wasn't for them, hardcore would surely die off (by the way that you act and the things that you say Thumpa, you SURELY want it to fail both as a scene, and as a genre). Hardcore is not about negativity or the bad things in life. or about putting other people down (if you wanted that kind of garbage, you should listen to gabber instead of hardcore). And if all you want to do is shit talk people and put them down for doing things MORE THAN LIKELY BETTER THAN YOU EVER COULD, or even things that you know nothing about, go to another forum. There are better ways to offer constructive criticism that straight putting down someone. You say alot of producers today can't even carry a tune in a bucket? Well, lets see you do better mate! Don't see/hear of you being signed to MULTIPLE labels. And if you're not here to argue, then why the hell did you start an argument? You make no sense. I guess someone just needs to buy you a new helmet (the kind with reflectors, mirrors, and lights, you know the kind you wear when you go bike riding at night?) and take you back to the group home that you escaped from. And one more thing, if you're not producing, then WHY THE HELL ARE YOU RUNNING A LABEL?

Sorry ahead of time to EVERYONE for such unprofessional behavior/language...

Just have to comment here as I, like Thumpa and CDJay am one of the 'Non-producers who actually run a label'.

I would say that the biggest labels in the world are ran by non musicians, EMI, Sony, Universal, Warner etc. So I would say that its quite the opposite, while you do need to have a sound knowledge and understanding of music to run a label, a good business and marketing head is far more important.
Perhaps the biggest dance music label in the UK is AATW who own Bonkers, Clubland etc. Thats run by 4 people (i believe) out of an office in Blackburn. They are not music producers, yet the Clubland series seem to do well and is now up to volume 18 isnt it? They have also had a number of tracks in the UK top 40 chart over the years. Say what you want about the music they release etc but they are a very successful label.

Smaller labels (on the grand scale not in hardcore terms) are ran by musicians, not the bigger ones.

I run a label because I love hardcore and I realised there was alot of talent being overlooked and I wanted to help those guys out. I also wanted to be involved in the scene and I feel I am achieveing these goals. I have met some great people, done some exciting stuff and travelled the length and breadth of the country because of my label. I love the idea of people enjoying the music put out by my label and for me, thats enough.

lol at most of this thread.

my top 3 producers of 2010:

Andy Dee - Seriously, check him out as he puts some real emotion into his stuff. Loads of stuff forthcoming to Make Believe Records atm as well, I'd have to say Make Believe is my label of the year too. Andy runs it.

SPIT - Not just caus he's my best bud and he's staying over at my place in february, but mostly because his sound is upfront, uplifting, and when he remixes you know it's him. He has a distinct sound.

Douglas - Everything he makes, remixes, or touches turns to gold. Really nice guy too, but yeah his production is amazing. Tracks like FM-200, his remix of Jervis & Hoj - Psycho Sonata really takes my breath away. I bounce to it everytime I hear it, can't help it!

well that's it from me... be sure to check out them as well on soundcloud:

u pretty much wrote what i was too lazy to write yesterday lol. not every producer/musician is able to successfully run their own label. same thing goes w/ painters who have some1 else running & promoting their art gallery, as well as why actors/actresses have managers and agents

besides, i'd rather have a producer dedicate most of their time on their music rather than have to split their time running their own label.

how could I have missed this thread :P

So on what pages does the flamewar starts at?

Anyways. As I haven't found hardcore enjoyable for a few years, So my Top 3 of this year will only contain DJ Sharpnel, as he/they' are the only producers this year that's made more than 3 tracks that I actually like.

Thumpa got Gammer to sign one of his track to his label, I think that says alot between Thumpa and Gisbo

This thread turned out funny.

I like it how artists and producers think it's their market, when it is in fact the consumer's market.

The artist's aren't driving the market, consumers are. It's a complete trial-n-error for artists. If they're lucky people will buy their music.

If it was the other way around, I wouldn't be suprised to see Gisbo suing people for not buying his music (which I'm guilty off )

He's probably bought more tracks over the years than 95% of this site's members (I'm not defending his filesharing btw). :)

And he doesn't need to know anything about production to have a say here.

Love the Semination hate :P

A label can sign great music and be the best label in the world, but it shouldnt make anyone as arrogent as Thumpa has displayed here.

Yeah i would say that most of the people who complain about file sharing pirate stuff at least occasionally, and justify it in some way to themselves in their mind. That is actually far worse. Samination was honest about it at least.

acid: you're saying that because you dont like freeform.

Thumpa has sold 2 fully legal CDs, where the first one was pressed about 150 times, and so far hasn't hit any real ******* site. I'd say he has a strong following, compared to Gisbo who's track I can find here and there (and I'm not talking about free tracks).

Keeping it offtopic. Thumpa only said that he didnt like the tracks Gisbo has made, and then everyone starts slating him? Will this forum ever grow up? There's more reason for Dain-Ja to bitch about me (still?) filesharing, than to bitch when someone gave his 2-cent about a song, which he also said, was uploaded for REVIEW/CRITICISM/FEEDBACK purpose?
