I'm almost 24 and my parents are selling their house to move into the city (to a MASSIVE one bedroom - 1M+) so i have to move out.

Problem is, to get anything remotely nice i have to spend 400/week on rent... that plus food, plus electricity and water, leisure time etc... how the **** do people do it?

Not to mention the furniture... oh god...

lol it's not that hard. your 1st apt will almost never be your best. so dont' have high expectations.

my 1st 1 was in a decent apt. complex, but it was small. an efficiency/studio that had a total length of only 24ft and the living room & bedroom were 12ft x 12ft. there were no other rooms except for the kitchen, bathroom & closet, and there was only a half-wall half-fence that divided both the living & bedroom, and that wall/fence didn't even reach the very top of the apt.

the only major furniture i had was a recliner, sofa chair, entertainment center, bed & comp. desk. it may suck, but it does feel good to have a place to call your own. trust me it'll get better man.

and if u don't like the idea of being by urself, get a roommate and split the rent, that is if u have a friend that you can really depend on

Thank you for that overwhelmingly intelligent response. I wish there were so many more people like you on the internet. Do you think maybe you could run a seminar entitled "How to give mature and useful advice"? Or are we here at happyhardcore.com just blessed with your incredibly empathetic and genuine wisdom?

Obviously i have a job, thanks.

Yeah moving out with someone else would make it a LOT more affordable. 250/300 each a week would get us a nice apartment.

The thing is, here in sydney, it'd cost me at least 300 for a studio anyway... There are ones for around 200... but honestly they look so run down it's ridiculous.

They scrape by with very little spare cash. ;) That's what I have to do anyway. It seems impossible at first but once you get used to not having vast amounts of spare cash things get easier. You'll come to realise how much money you have been wasting when you can't afford to anymore!

It's not all that hard really, sometimes if you have bad credit and they don't want to rent out to you because of that you can be like "Well look here, I want this place, so how about I get you a grand and you let me move in" that's if you have the money.

Moving into a place in the same city is easy, when you get into the crap I'm going through, wanting to move 300miles over to Seattle, a different city all together, then it gets hard.

You can get some woeful studio's in surry hills for a song.

A place to yourself is the most expensive way of doing it. Have you checked around Maroubra or Kensington or are you looking inner west, generally a bit cheaper round there. Thought about house sharing, can really take the cost down. Girlfriend lived in a house in glebe for about $150 a week. Check out most telegraph poles, usually have ads asking for flatmates/tenants. See if you can find a share house with some uni students. They live very cheap.

yeah i might be moving out with another mate, in which case there's no problem as 250-300/week each will get us a nice place.

But i was also thinking i'd like to have my OWN place hey. Not a place a share with someone else, MY place. Maybe that sounds stupid but that appeals to me.

Having your own place is awesome mate! I'd struggle to live with a mate now that I'm used to having a house to myself. Can't annoy anyone and can't be annoyed yourself, can't beat it. It's worth being extra skint for IMO. ;)

Where I'm at, you can get a nice flat for about $350, with water, electricity, shitty internet, included. It's only a flat with a small bathroom and a small "kitchen" area.

There are other places around here also, if you dont mind living in the "ghetto" (not really, but thats what the people want to call it) you can get a 1 bedroom 2 story apartment for about $400 with everything included...

Sucks to be you lol..

That all depends how much you like the area and country you live in and of course what the wages are like! I could move somewhere that costs a fraction of what I pay for property here but the pay for a similar job in that area would reflect that.

Yes. You're using a term that refers to homosexual people to proclaim how "shitty" it is. What do you have against gay people? ;)
