should all probably establish the currency you're paying in and the volume you're getting for that price.
Seeing as people from the U.S purchase in U.S. dollars and by the gallon.
Here in australia it's an australian dollar by the litre.
Not sure what it is in the UK... pound to a litre?

no no no, its all relative!! (mainly at lorenzo, but also anyone else ;) )
easiest way to explain that is that in the middle east (roughly) a gallon of petrol costs something like $0.20 does that mean relatively speaking they are getting it for $0.20? heeeeell no, avarage wage is somthing like $100 a year
so relatively speaking they are paying just as much (if the average wage over there was $1000 a year, gas would be a different price, say around $2 - of course other factors are in there, but generally speaking that is why you can't compare one countrys price to another without breaking it down to a ratio by including average wage)
its alllll relative.
so back to what you were saying, just as in the UK you might see petrol prices at (what you would translate at about $7 a gallon, you would have to also translate the fact that our minimum wage is GBP5.70..almost 10USD
and thats only minimum wage, not the average wage (and other COL arent taken into account)
relative relative relative - its all about Cost Of Living! :)
(not meant in a nasty way, just had to be said!)
either way, fuel is still expensive - though I dont tend to complain as its not like its my human right to demand fuel :)

very interesting. i think min wage here is like almost $8.50. yet $1.50 makes that big of a difference? than again it does make sense for americans prices to rise; i remember when i was about 10; min wage was $5.15 n gas was $1.50-ish?

yep, in illi its $8.25, one of the highest in the states! most of the other states are around $7
after the maths england are around 30%* more expensive for fuel, which pretty much goes for everything else too - thats what we have the stigma "rip off britain" because COL is absolutely terrible over here.
*given that $7.87 is what we pay for fuel, and $9.50 is our minimum wage and
given that $3.60 is quote for fuel there, and an average of $7 minum wage across the states
leaves roughly 30% difference
nice to see it hasnt gone up too much over there, when i left it was around 3.40/3.50ish - when i got there it was like under $2!
