The first one is doing the "2(9+3)" first, then dividing 48 by that answer.
So, 48/24 = 2
The second one is doing the "48/2" the multiplying that answer by "(9+3)"
So 24 x 12 = 288

i'm assuming the 1 on the left has the exact same formula as the 1 on the right, but can't really tell b/c of the dirty screen and less lighting on that side of the pic

288. You do brackets first, then division, then multiply.
BIDMAS rule applies here.

Since nobody has figured it out yet (Bonkers4Life was the closest), the root of the trouble here is the wording of the problem; it's not specific enough. Different people will parse the problem differently as well.
