i find that raves are better, because:
a: the MUSIC
b: friendlier ppl
but clubs also have their advantages
Crack another one !!!

They're both good IMHO.
With clubs you have the advantages of alcohol (yeeeeeeah baby), more 'mature' crowds (including honeys that are *guaranteed* to be over the age of consent ) and legal venues, but the people are generally less friendly and welcoming than at raves.
Raves, on the other hand, have smiling happy people, with whom it is *so* much easier to develop bonds and friendships, and the music's a lot better too , but with the all-age thing sometimes the happiness degenerates into immaturity, and with the rave scene so much smaller than the club scene it's easy to get sick of seeing the same old faces week in and week out. Illegal venues also come with their own disadvantages.
Of course, the distinction's not black and white - in the middle you have your regular rave-clubs and one-off raves being held at clubs, combining elements of the two in a mix-and-match.
Honestly, I'm inclined to go with raves, but that's cuz I haven't been to one in a while - when I go to like 6 in a row, then all of the sudden even the sleaziest, gungiest club with the crappiest music and most hostile club becomes a refreshing change in scenery. Likewise, when I go clubbing heaps I eventually end up *aching* to go to a rave. It's a seasonal thing for me.

yeah i have to agree with the age thing but u can buy booze at raves a lot cheeper than in a club the peopleon the whole are a lot nicer altho all the ket heads should just crawl bk under the stone they came out of
i go to raves every week and they are great but since they were advertised in a sertain magazine (no names mentioned) all you seem to find is underaged garage kids who want to fight and rob you so untill we can get them bk into their cages it looks like i may be going clubbing again!!!!!!!!!!

thats one thing with the aussie rave scene ... no booze, well, only utopia has it, but even then the prices r thru the roof, and our club scene prices are no better ... i always find its better to drink before u get to a club, that way the night doesnt cost u an arm an a leg
Crack another one !!!

There's upsides to both if you're prepared to deal with the downsides.
When I go raving, I *expect* to see e-tards, twinkies, kids who are waaaaay too young to be out of the house at this time of night. That way when I get there and I (maybe) see these things then I'm not surprised, and I can focus on enjoying the good parts, like the music and the vibe. Likewise when I go to clubs I'm fully prepared to face not-so-friendly crowds, even less-friendly bouncers, strict dress codes, etc.
Know what you're getting into, and you'll have a better time.

At least at raves you dont get meat-head bouncers who think they can feel you up and get away with it coz theyre in control (speaking from experience incase you couldnt tell) plus its less costly and more fun and you dont have closing time!

what about if people start taking heaps of pills at nightclubs? i know here in sydney even those clubs that *used* to be really bad re violence and drunkenness are now pretty safe places to be cuz everyone's discovered the joy of the pill. sure the music still aint great but IMHO a women looks a lot hotter dancing to hi-nrg than to hardcore *shrugs*

i like raves a lot better because, for one, i don't like drinking or people that have been drinking, and two, because i don't much like club music. in fact sat. night i went to a rave and was confused and disturbed because they were playing club house and hip hop instead of trance and jungle until 2 when the hip hop room finally became a jungle room, then at 4 the main room finally had trance playing. i was afraid it was the biggest waste of 10 dollars i'd ever spent until they finally got some decent djs up.

"Raves aren't a fashion statement" - tell that to the chicks you see in raves wearing hot-pants, FMB's, school uniforms, costumes (nurses, police officers, insects, fairies, demons etc) ... and, for that matter, girls who come in groups all wearing the same outfit, and then you got guys as monks, priests, doctors, magicians, axe murderers, terrorists. Sure it's all in good fun but you can't deny that to a large extent these *are* fashion statements.
And while I'm not denying that some of those costumes that chicks wear to raves are bloody hot, IMO the movements associated that a girl would make in a club (ie more ass-shaking, hip-swaying) are more conducive to giving your average guy a chubby than watching a chick bounce up and down to HHC ... although if she's a busty wench, then bouncing would have an appeal all its own I guess.
That, and at a club you've got a clear guarantee that the chick you're looking at is old enough to present the rumpage for the pumpage ... at raves you can't be that certain.

Both are good in my opinion. I'm personally a full fleged raver but i can see alot of plusses in the club scene too, it's what ever floats yer boat really, whatever does ya solid. both have their flaws. I personally am starting to see many flaws in the rave culture , at least in people. it is sooo about the drugs over here, about 70 % by my reconing. I can't even begin to say how many times ive wanted to have a decent conversation with some and have only been able to get a reply like " man, i'm sooo ****ed, i did this many pills and sniffed this much K and Jibb" . I don't need you to tell me that, and i don't need to hear it from 20 other freakin people either. Raves to me have become nothing more than about the music and haveing a good time with the people you go with. the whole PLUR is great up until the last letter, R, . Honestly how much respect is goin on in there, ....i'm gettin a little off topic here so i'm gonna stop. like I said befor , whatever floats yer boat. ( clubs though are full of snotty people way more so than raves so i like the raver flavour)
Cheers !

Like I sez before, don't be naive and know what you're getting into. When I first started raving it was all peaches and cream, but very soon after you start noticing the seedier aspects of the scene. If you can accept that it isn't perfect, and that there *are* flaws, then you know how to avoid or minimise the impact of these flaws have on your positive raving experience. Same goes for clubbing.
