So I never go to raves...no one I know likes hardcore...I'm thinking of going to a rave by myself. Trouble is i'm embarrassed, and think I'll look stupid raving on my own in a club. In truth...would I stand out like a sore thumb if I went to a rave on my own? And is it more common than I think for people to go to these events by themselves?

Not at all! In fact, why don't you tell everyone here what rave it is you're going to, perhaps one of the members here will be going to the same rave and show you around.
I went to HTID ITS 2012 all by myself because I was tired of waiting to find someone to go with, and I met people on the transfer bust from BCN to Lloret before the event even took place. And I met so many wonderful people throughout the whole week. Funnily enough, I got along better with the UK ravers than the US ravers that were there.
Although that's a different situation, still I'm sure that you'll meet a lot of good people there. Most people don't even see each other anywhere else besides a rave, so I am sure you will be in good hands. Just FYI don't drink anything that Jamie buys for you.

Lots of people go by themselves. Not uncommon at all. In any case how would anyone know if you're alone or not? You might just be in another room to all your friends etc... There is no way anyone can know the difference. Or even if you are with any of the people immediately around you or not.

Thanks for the replies guys. It's 'ravers reunited vs storm' on november 30th in Leicester...looks like a pretty big event that I was thinking of going to. It was a big debate I was having with myself about if I could go on my own or not...but I'm guessing the venue for this will be packed anyway so it wouldn't matter...might have to man up and just go lol.

If it wheren't for the guys I know from here, and that the fact I am from Sweden (and a personal fact that I NEVER go partying at all in Sweden), I would never had gone to any rave.
My first was the Last Jam Standing (Last freeformation), and I can't remember if I said I'd go before or meet a few of the guys here by coincidence

Some of the D&B raves i've been to with mates who love D&B i've spent all night in the Old Skool room by myself. I'd go to a rave on my own if i had no one to go with.

Back in my younger days id go to raves with a group of mates but as the nights went on we'd all be that wasted that we'd lose each other anyway. Plus as people have said you make loads of friends anyway.

I bet if you went on the event page on Facebook (assuming there is one), you'd ring loads of people willing to meet up.
I've met loads of great people while out alone...and some shit ones too to be fair :-P

Had a look on the Facebook attending list for you mate, and I don't really know anyone that's going, otherwise I would have asked them to look out for you.
What everyone else has said is completely right. There is no shame, no downside, no reason to not go raving solo! I've done it before and it's a good crack. You just need to get that first one under your belt mate.
You will get talking to people in the queue, before you're even in there. Everyone just talks to anyone. As soon as you realise how nice everyone is, you'll be fine.
And as Matt says, no one is going to know that you're actually on your own when your inside. And if people did know, they would be making a massive effort to chat to you and make sure you're getting on alright.
I am excited for you man! Your first rave. A night to treasure!!
Where abouts in the UK are you mate, out of interest?

The first rave I went to was with Jay, but as soon as I walked in everyone was very friendly and I met loads of people and made loads of friends. I keep seeing the same people at events after that.
Youve got nothing to worry about! These events feel a lot more like a community because youre with like-minded people there for the love of music, rather than people who've walked in off the street looking for a drink. I would advice that if its your first rave try and meet someone, it just makes things easier :)

I went to my first rave by myself had to dip my toe in the water and let my mates know what it was like , you'll have a wicked time , quite a few people I've met at raves who were there by themselves , just don't do too many drugs!
Me saying don't do too many drugs is very hypocritical but if you're by yourself take it easy.

Don't worry about experiencing embarrassing moments!
I usually go to raves alone or with only one mate I met in a local club, but who is interested and open-minded about rave culture. Usually the people over here talk about rave, but to my opinion they only believe that simply listening to electronic music makes anything a rave.
And don't care about your dancing skills! Most people only look ridiculous when they are drunk or on a heavy trip. But even in this case I've never seen someone making fun out of this person, because the normal ravers don't mind.
Please enjoy your first rave!

cheers guys...listening to these comments is dead helpful. Think I will just go solo. If not just wait until early next year when my gf said she'd come to one with me. Think once I've been to one on my own I'd be alright, it's just getting myself to go to that first one by myself. It's just a shame no one I know likes hardcore. On the note of where I am in the country...it's Sheffield...a barren raveless wasteland...suppose that's exaggerating a tad lol...but yeah nothing hardcore-wise I'm aware of round here.

I feel being more unsecure if I'd take a girlfriend to a rave, who has no idea what a rave is or even dislikes electronic music. People are so much filled up with prejudices by the media these days.
By the way: Sheffield isn't too far away from Leeds. You might want to check out the Stomp raves over there. I was there November 8th and met a huge bunch of nice persons over there who'll definitely feel you comforted and warmly welcomed all the time.
