^^ people seem to think this alot. why doesnt happyhardcore do a sort of thing like that "djvision history of hardcore" thing... ?

it would probably clear up alot of shit. possibly a timeline with mp3/ram clips ?

Oh man, I hope I didn't brain my damage...

Check out www.backtotheoldskool.com loads of real audio charting the scene back to 1987.Not all hardcore lot of jungle n dat but its still v good.

The united dance version seems slightly different though, it has a bit of an extended stab and a longer break with a whole new "movement" kinda thing, where it goes into these crazy beepy arpeggios..

96 is not old skool, I was in my second phase of raving then!!
i prefer the 96-98 era then the newer trancy stuff but perhaps I am just getting old!! I like the modern stuff and hey, if it doesn't evolve it will die, then piano will be back, you can bet on it

yeah, imo its all as gud as the other depending upon where yr at etc etc.. and look at it this way.. 'happy' hardcore, as in chessy bouncy bouncy hardcore evolved from old skool hardcore (sooo not 96 hardcore!) didnt it, so that change in the music may not have pleased some people, but its all gta evolve hasnt it, and as long as the atmosphere & spirit is still there its all hardcore, and as long as it aint dying im happy, whether it be old skool, bouncy or trancey!!

To me, old skool means the early 90's hardcore/rave era.
If Happy Hardcore did have an old skool era it would more likely to be stuff from '94 onwards. I think i'd say the '96 stuff was from the 'classic era' of hardcore - it's still what i play most with some new stuff thrown in. IMO Happy Hardcore is the only genre of dance music where there isn't the sense of 'desperation' to always play brand new stuff and nothing else. In most house and trance clubs anything over 3 months old is considered as past it!

Who cares when it was made if it's good?

We're dancing wall to wall, all creatures great and small

OK, I couldn't agree more with the last post... because there is SOOOO much stuff that I've been finding lately that is absolutely great, but it's a few years old so no one wants to play it.

Anyhow, onto the actual topic of this post... The new hardcore rocks. Anyone can easily enjoy it because it isn't uber cheese and because the actual quality of the songs has in my opinion become so much better.

and just to beat a dead horse, '96 is not oldschool. real oldschool breakbeat hardcore is a wet dream come true. What I live and die for is labels like KFA and Phase 4 who are bringing back the breakbeat sound. Long live jungle core. :)

No sir, that's paper.
