Im going to start reading again soon. Well summer is actually here soon. I find I forget how to read if I don't have a book infront of me.
When I was in primary school I skipped year two and went upto year three and stayed in that year for two years! So yeah, I was an amazing reader for my age, but it has deteriorated.
Favs books are...
- Lord of the Flies - William Golding
- The Beach - Alex Garland
- Nine Lives (Goldies autobiography)
- Lots of Love - Fiona Walker
- Why The Whales Came - Michael Morpurgo (read it in year 3, lush book made me wana cry heh)
- Good Night Mister Tom (cant forget this lil classic)

I love reading! Used to read on the train to/from Manchester when I was working there so I used to get through loads of books! I like pretty much anything - not a huge fan of Irvine Welsh though! Don't get as much time to read these days, but I like to when I can!
Orwell's 1964 was a freat read! Very thought provoking, especially when you start thinking about various things the government of today is introducing!
Just finished reading a book on the history of my old school which was a good read, but only from a personal perspective I guess. Currently reading Moby's biography and I have The Altman Code by Robert Ludlum (Bourne Identity etc) and Gayle Lynds.
Don't watch any TV really, although the occaisional DVD finds its way onto my screen. Currently watching the Firefly DVDs which are good, but TV these days is pap!

Never read this myself, is it any good?
It puts me off a book when it's been dissected for educational purposes.

Its a well good book! And I think I like it so much because that was the book that got me an A in english Literature!
I don't know if I would like it if I hadnt as you say dissected it for educational purposes... It made me think about the content of the story, and made me realise all of the techniques and hidden messages that William Golding had used. He is a very clever man :)

You see it's that kind of thing that puts me off, when I read I want to enjoy the story not want to think about something that some english teacher said he might very well have possibly ment "this" to mean "that".
I guess it was all down to learning Shakespeare in school, they go off on a mad tangent about the hidden meaning and representation of such and such a character or quote, when in all reality the chances are he ment it to mean what it says on the page...we don't know for sure. I find that sometimes people read to much into whats ment to be read.

Me too! More than most. some call it unhealthy, Which is why it was really hard for me to restrain myself and relax I had a tough time at school heh, and because I also hated reading! But untill I had tried it, I didn't realise how cool it is! People like bristol boy think reading is boring because they havnt yet found their suited style of writing and content. I love kurt cobains diary, It is hardly reading, but it all depends on your taste.

hahahaha this page on this thread has been raped by us mortis.
Yes, Goldies book - nine lives, has some of his graf in it. schweeet stoof. I recomend that to you if you like him. It goes really deep into his personal life and youth. Like when he was sexually abused as a kid by the bigger boys, I had no idea about Goldie until I read this book. Also says a hell of a lot about his music.
