Is using PC Software mixers/audio creators real DJ'ing it is my belief that no its not, it is just clicking buttons and letting a pc do all the work. To me DJ'ing is using decks and mixers to rock the club!

If you are selecting and beatmatching two songs together, why would it matter which medium you use to make that happen?

true but, scott brown, DJ Bluecore they all make there mixes with Pcs and it takes out the fun of human involvement in the clubs and if we keep going the way we are DJs may as well all be fired and replaced by PCs :S PCs have ****** the world and made it lazy and dumb :( wahhh GO THE VINYL DJS LIKE ME HUGE RESPECT

Don't get me wrong, i love vinyl as much as the next guy, but digital media is going to become the way of the future, and that future is beginning as we speak.

that's why I lost all respect for fa fa frolic =P
I don't mind using cds, but when you are using a pc to beatmatch (or any bpm counter for that matter) it just seems like cheating...it also sounds different.

Have to agree with the Ritalin here. I was very opposed to anything but vinyl for years. I now realise that you have to embrace the technology or risk being left behind.
IMO a good DJ is a good DJ, no matter what the medium. The ability to read a crowd, select tracks, and build a set is something that a computer can never replace.

yes PC DJ'in is the future but is it right to be the future because if DJs now rallied against it they could still stop it becoming the future. nothing pisses me off more then to find out my favourite DJ (which was Scott Brown) uses a PC to mix Bonkers 14 CD 3 (Which if i might say, Bonkers is one of the most sold Hardcore albums in the world) is hiring PC DJs to mix them. That is unprofessional. It's just like John '00' Flemming he was mixing MOS HRG 1-6 before they found out his live concerts were all mixed via PC and so MOS Revoted his contract that is why it was such a suprise to me and alot of people that Cosmic Gate ended up doing MOS HRG 7 :D

Vinyl - Still the most professional option, and usually the most fun :)
CDs - Not as professional because....it's CDs but I would do it unless it was auti tuning and beatmatching everything. (not my greatest talent but I practice with records)
MP3 - Way too automatic for me, if you aren't making a liveset you can just post a random set of mp3s and the pc does it all then you can upload your "great work" to places and not have really done much.

good pc mixers have been out for over 5years
with djred/blue and other products like freeware tactile 12000 (which auto mix)
you still wont get gigs thu if you tell em you can mix on your computer, cause being being a deck (weither cd or vinyl) and letting ppl feed of your energy is the thing they look for

I dont think your gonna get a booking if you turn up with a laptop and a few audio tracks... if you want to be club DJ you really need equipment as no one wants to look at DJ hunched over a computer for 60 mins :)

I think anyone who uses an auto beat match function to mix is just being plain lazy its pathetic there is no skill involved whatsoever it just means anyone can dj and therefore lead to all dj's just being producers hired for there exclusive tunes which sucks IMO.

Agree with you there bulby whats the point of there even being a dj there, he could jus select the tunes and the machine could do the rest while he sits at home havin a couple tins.
Aint what i love about mixin anyway and i wouldnt be happy goin to a rave to look at a pc.
Cd's on the other hand i dont use but you're still mixin and from what i've heard is dam hard. No probs with that but the mp3 mixin programs all make it so easy to cheat.

One point I'd like to add in to this discussion is that if your using a PC you don't have to use teh bpm counter and automatic beatmatching facilities that it offers. Essentially a PC offers you 2 or more CD decks and you can do what you want with them. You can even get control surfaces so it is as if you are using CD decks and a proper mixer.
Granted there are many who DO use the autobpm functions, but as has been said, it doesn't matter what medium you use.
Silver has a very valid point though. I wouldn't want to watch a DJ hunched over his laptop for an hour or more. I like to see the DJ work his stuff!
