im at college at the moment but i really cant stick it and i have been told by a mate of an apprentichip with united utilites (water board) that is going to be starting in march. im think im clever enough to do quite well at college but i am simply just to lazy and want money now.
what's your opinions? should i stick it out or go for the apprentichip?
any one off here undergone an apprentichip scheme thing before? are they any good?

Tried 'e2e' which get's you aprentiships but it failed me. Soon i'm going to start the 'Fresh Start' course at college which payes £30 (or EMA to under 18 year olds) and also payes your travel and you get voucers for the canteen. If I complete the course I get a free lap top or driving lessons, and £100 if I go onto another course! e2e don't give you much at all but real 'modern' aprentiships pay you around £70 a week unless you are employed by the company!
I'm lazy and plan on being at college until i'm 19 (i'm 18 now) which gives me five years at college, I started when I was 15 (part of my school's 'head start course'
Good luck

Erf', I'm totally the same. Too lazy to do anything ;P. I say stick it out at college. I quit my first year to get a job... and I regret it. I learnt my lesson though and i'm now back at college doing a completely different course. But if you're really not happy in college, go for the apprenticeship. Hope it turns out ok anyway :).

Just get the a-levels done that you're doing now, because if you're only there 'till next year you might as well get them decent qualifications. After that get a job, and then the a-levels are always there when you need them.

cheers every1 for the advice!
this one is actually quite good, £8K a year for two years while you train, then you start on £24k and it can rise to £34k with experience and they also put you through your driving lessons and test.

Im on an apprenticeship now bud...
went to college twice, ****ed it both times coz i cudn't be arsed showin up for most of it.
im now doing a similar thing as uni graduates do, and am earning the same amount of money - without having to endure more years at college, more years at university and being skint coz of a big fat uni loan...
admittedly the job im doing i've now realise it aint at all what i want to do, but if ya find an apprenticeship you like, go for it!
Good luck bud

How long til you finish your course?
If it isn't that long (say a semester or two) I think you should stick it out. If all else fails then you can still walk into an apprenticeship at the end of it.
I almost jacked-in uni the other day and gave up my honours to graduate with a basic bachelors but realised its only a few months of my life in exchange for something that could potentially last my whole life.
Either way it's your call but make sure you think it through/talk it over with a careers advisor instead of a bunch of random people on a hardcore forum.
Best of luck!

If you can get an apprentice mate i'd go with that, getting trained in something that makes you useful to others so they'll give you money is a lot better than bummin about at college. Not saying college aint worth your while just it's f**kin expensive and hard to earn while you do it, and if all you're doing is being lazy you'll get nowhere faster once you've finished the course.
Wish i'dve stuck somethin when i was younger but didnt have the right mindset at the time, aslong as i had enough work to get wrecked with my mates i was happy. Infact f**k it was a gd laff i dont regret it but 5 years later i want some qualifications so have gone to college.
Is a bit of a pain in the arse been surrounded by 16-18 year old grime mc's but there a gd laff really jus young and mad, atleast at 21 i no i'm going for the right reasons which is to get somewhere i want to go and i aint there to jus to **** about and waste a year like a lotta the younger ones. Is a shit hot course (music tech) but unless you make the most of everything you learn plus have a bit of personality theres no future in it. Must admit i've been lucky that i've been able to get enough work off my dad to see me by, to be honest without him helpin me out theres no way i couldve done it. Gotta grab good luck when you get it.
But aye mate basically college is only good if your really using it to work hard on yourself, nobody pays you for nothing in this world and if what you no's no use to anybody you'll never get anything.
Should try to apply to brittish gas if possible mate there apprentice is the best for wages and having a future, they squeeze 3 years into one so it's hard work but you more than get the rewards for it. Mates i no that're qualified there get an allocated amount of jobs for a week, work really hard monday to wednesday to get it all done then have a 4 day weekend. Not just that the wages and training salaries are supreme plus they look after you for life get pensions the lot.
All best with whatever you do anyway mate

In my Opinion Appreticeships are a very good way2go, especialy if you are like me, clever enough to do college but just lackin the drive.
I found myself over the "Park" all the time, I concentrated 2much on the Social life than doing the wrk, I quit after my 1st year.
However i did obtain some grades
After leaving college i joined the Army...... I thouroughly enjoyed it in there, bt my gf at the time ws pregnant nd she was really missing me, ringing me every night, saying she wasn't eating or going out, even her parents rang me like!
After a lot of thought i decided2 come out nd ws stuck in unemployment for a time after, until........
I landed an APRENTICESHIP! And in my opinion they are a brilliant way to earn money and learn a useful trade at the same time!
Crack on my Son!!!
