i thought that the US would only support Taiwan because China is a communist nation, and the US is trying to promote their "democratic" policies?

Yeah thats what i meant, thats the real reason there has been no aggression towards taiwan, because of the fact they are democratic pretty much. But the communist party in China is losing power and i think in time Taiwan will become part of the mainland again once they become a democratic state too

hmmmm i disagree on that point. I dont think Taiwan would give up their sovereignty even if China became a democratic country (big if isnt it?)
Why would a country give up its hard fought independance?
