Surly to create a sub genre is so that you can fine the music you like and dont end up buying the stuff you dont!!! If it was all hardcore then if i wanted a gabba cd and ended getting a upfount cd then i would be anoyed.
And yes I often buy cds ive never heard of as i some times fine some stuff i would have never have heard before.
Also it sharkey says its all just hardcore then why does he call his music freeform???? hmmmmm???
Which brings me to a question,
How would you describe Hardcore rather then Happy Hardore cos I think thats what it used to be called in the 90's and when whould say it changed?

I hate it they way people call the new stuff 'Happy Hardcore' when it is far from! Happy Hardcore was (not always) speed up vocals, piano rifts (or whater the fucvk you call them) Bouncy Techno siths (yes, I know Bouncy Techno is somthing different) and the techno bass line! The kicks were usually hard (after 1994) and it had much imagination. The cheesyest of Happy Hardcore is tracks like Toy Town by Hixxy and Shareky (1995) and Steamtrain by Hopscotch and Dougal (1996) yet it covered a whole range of different styles from 1993-1999. When it went out most DJs either went onto to Freeform, House or 'Upfront' which emerged after 2001.

heres a basic run down of the genre as i see it, a few description bu i jus call em as i see em
we start of with dance (like it or lump it) that is the main genre then from there we go in to the sub-genres
hardcore
UK Hardcore- bouncy fartey bass lines
happy hardcore aka old skool - piano-e happy choons (always about love)
nu skool
Gabber (has its own sub genres)- speaker blowing basline asbolubtly AMAZIN
techno
trance/ house - ambient calm music that you can really chill to
speedcore- really really fast
drum & bass - does what it sez on the tin!
makina - foriegn hardcore from places like france (dont mix this with gabber which mainly comes from germany)
mmm not shure were else to go from there hope thats satisfying enough i think i prety much coverd everything

k, think I'll try and explain a few more subgenres (note that when I say "hardcore" I mean in most cases "gabber"):
Doomcore - Very dark and very slow hardcore. The ambient feel of these tracks is focussed on a sence of imminent doom (hence the name). and even though the tracks don't have the energy supplied by the speed in other forms of core they are powerful none the less. it's difficult to explain so if you'd like to check it out then I'd advise you check out things like old FIX-records tracks and things like old facehoover and fifth era stuff. Some of the stuff on Nordcore is also doomcore, Black monolith records has an excelent selection as well.
Trancecore - And no I'm not talking about the freeform-derivate. I'm talking about the Trancecore that originated in holland when the guys at Cenobite records started experimenting with their 303's and made hardcore with synthlines that had more trancelike structures (even though some had a more acid-ish feel to it). Cenobite records had a very distinct style. Trancecore made by others after that had a rather different feel to it, some of it stuck to the same formula but ditched the 303 sound for something else (early bionic records) or some actually made synthlines that would fit a hardtrance song and layered it over a solid hardcore bassline (and the works).
Acidcore - much debate about what is and what isn't acidcore. Some ppl go as far as placing everything with a 303 in it under acidcore but personally i think that's shit.
acidcore (to me) needs a predominant hard acidrave feel to it but with the speed and powerful kick (as well as structure) of a good hardcore track. using an acidloop in a hardcore track does not suffice as in that case the feel of it would simply be he same as regular hardcore.
ppl who can do this very well are the ppl from Tocsin.
there, done for now.
If i'm off on an explenation, please let me know

Makina is Spanish, French hardcore is industrial sounding and I would of thought alot more gabber was made in Holland rather than Germany...

Please guys dont take the sub-genre thing of hardcore too far. If you are trying to categories a certain sound of hardcore so people better know what you are talking about is all good.
But some people take it too far and try to split the scene and create an entirly seperate genre from hardcore... "It's not hardcore it's breakbeat". Things like this can be devestating to our scene.
Sorry guys but it always bothers me when I see this.
