More and more people are using CDJS nowadays, what happened to the good old vinyl days?
Obviously as technology gets better something gets easier but if DJ'ing carries on like this soon there will be no need 4 DJS at all because its all done through a CPU. Robots'll be DJ in coming years!
Am not saying it isn't a good piece of equipment but I think its killing tradition a bit.
Theres more skill to appreciate on vinyl because they have to physically change the record and juggle all other aspects, while with MP3s you just click a button to do all sorts.
I know a few people who agree with me but i'd like to hear from all.
What do you think?

i still use vinyl decks, althought i'd like to add two CDJ's to my setup when i get some money together!

Not everybody who uses CDJs / Laptops uses the old one-click-wonder-mix buttons.
I use a laptop to DJ with - mainly for convenience, also because of some of the features it offers me. I beatmatch in the traditional way with it, mapping pitch up/down and pitch bend to various keys on the keyboard. None of this auto-bpm for me. The only way that it is different from vinyl is in the way you interact with it.
I do also know a DJ who does make use of the bpm-matching feature of the software he uses to DJ with, but instead of just doing it to be lazy he does it so he can concentrate on doing other stuff and being much more creative - and his mixes end up being almost like new tunes in their own right.
People always grumble about new technology - when electric guitars started being made there was an outcry by the traditionalists, when electronic instruments started coming out there was an outcry by the traditionalists, when samplers started coming out there was an outcry by the traditionalists and now that Laptops are being used to DJ with there is an outcry from the traditionalists heh - at the end of the day, it is a means to an end and I listen to music with my ears.

i use a laptop and midi controller and i love it as underloop says the bpm lock is not there just for lazyness......i mostly use ableton and have to warp tracks anyway but is a good set really determined on wether a dj matches beats himself or has a little help......ridiculous.
if you think its that easy to knock a great set up just because its on a laptop i challenge you to really have a good go at it........you will see.

I use my two CDJ200's, and just use CDR's. I dont really like using mixing programs because it takes the fun and skill out of what your doing.
I still think vinyl is cool as hell, mainly because Ive only used it like once, but when you record a mix on vinyl, its very hard to keep everything even. Beatmatching is much harder, and keeping the levels the same is quite a task (yes Im stating the obvious). I know when I hear a mix I like for everything to be sounding crisp and clean. But if you can keep everything in line, you should definitely be credited much more.
Its really just preference. I had no interest in buying vinyl decks when I first started, while other people definitely will.
Vinyl aint going anywhere in my opinion.

i have two numark tt220's and the numark mixer hooked up to Torq via my laptop and its the greatest set up ever. go vinyl and go torq (or scratch live... pretty much the same cept for the settings)
all that matters is what you want really, but go to a music store and try them both out, which ever feels right to you, go with it. it helped me!

Yea, I actually have Serato...I just dont use it at all lol. The only reason Im keeping it is because I plan to get vinyl decks in the future!
I plan on learning how to scratch...and hopefully getting very good at it lol.

I just use vinyl at the mo' but getting Sarato soon. There are tunes exclusive to both formats and I don't want to miss out on either... also much easier to play tunes I've done or mates have given me!
I'll always prefer vinyl... More fun to collect, more fun to mix with.

Bingo from Underloop on that one. I use CDJ's and Vinyl when I can. But most of my mixing is based on the CDJ's. Purely becuase I can mix faster, drop things in faster and take my mix to more creative places than just sitting there waiting to drop the record.
Using CDJ's opens up a huge amount of possibilities in your mix, you have time do a lot of things. Its just a shame that a lot of people that use them tend to use the new found free time to do some yoga etc... and not actually experiment with their mix.

Hmmm never used vinyl in my life, so I can't say but yet it looks more funner than CDJ. Maybe CDJ's are used more these days cause people CBF waiting for a release to come out like 'Raverbaby' and all that crap, cause of the lag. :D

I have been using serato with vinyl for years now and i can honestly say i have no intrest in using cdj's.
I do play hardcore and hardstyle but of late i have been playing more hiphop, whilst playing hiphop cdj's are frowned upon:)

I've already got some tech 1210s that I mix vinyl on and I'm getting this in July as it works out far cheaper that two decent CDJs... get to keep the feel of mixing with vinyl too... I've tested it out and think it's great.

Haha it just is man, I rekon it's for lazy people + for people who can't mix or something cause yeh you can see the soundwaves, and not sure about if you can see the bpm of the song or not aswell.
But this is all in my opinion, who agree's/disagree is up to you guys! =D
