I'm wondering if anyone can help me here. I've started to listen to much more Hardscape these days & i'm certainly going to play much more of it in the future but I can't understand what the main difference is between it & Freeform?

I was having a bit of a debate with Firefly & a few of his mates. I was saying that Freeform is the future of Hardcore & we need to get things a bit more serious & concentrated in the future but they were saying that Freeform's on its last legs & it wont last much longer & Hardscape is the new style but, to me its just another form of freeform. Just because its been given another name doesn't mean we can ignore the facts that Freeform is whats made Hardscape &, to me, it's not very far away.

Is this another case of change the name, like trancecore-freeform, just to keep it fresh or mabey there is a much bigger divide. I hope you can help me out here. I'm sure you will! Cheers

yeah, I understand its slightly slower but on the Cotts Vid on youtube, hes mixing it up & it doesn't sound much slower than any freeform i've heard. What happens when its mixed @ a faster tempo. Does this mean it becomes Freeform again?

Bit slower, less off beat basses, more influence from other genres, more variety and more new ideas. It's what freeform was supposed to be I guess.

Freeform has got its own sound now which is the opposite of what it originally set out to do. Still love freeform though!

Do you think this is an attempt to get Freeform back to its Trancecore roots? I agree Bulby, I love Freeform but i'd like to hear it go back to the Bonkers 7 sound. Really crisp & with real 2000 Trance influence. I think I might start a few new tracks, call them Hardscape & take it back to those old trancecore styles

Me too! Was some quality tunes being knocked out around that time. Shame no labels have really replaced Bonkerz/Digital Beatz etc.

I don't think so no. It's not trying to be like anything I'd say. They're trying to create a faster genre of dance music that is open for people to experiment with without people saying "that's not a (insert sub genre here) tune". A hard thing to do as people seem to love categorizing.

Freeform is no longer freeform to be honest. It kind of lost that feel when it was given a genre. Like some are saying, hardscape is the new freeform, but it won't be long before hardscape becomes just another subgenre of hardcore.

I'm not saying it's bad, I'm saying it'll suffer the same fate that freeform did.

to be honest im fed up with all these different "genres"

when i was going to raves in the 90`s i just categorized it as
"HARDCORE" and "HAPPYHARDCORE"

kept it simple...
