It must touch the foot all of 10 seconds in the whole game! and then you call football "soccer" when the beutiful game is played at pace, technique, speed and skill on the floor for 90 mins with the "foot" ! (apart from a few saves from the keeper! ) I mean basketball (you aim for the basket) Baseball (you run to the base) but both sports play with a proper ball! American footballers even play it witha rugby ball! (I won't even start about that) can they please change it to American catchball please!

this is straight out of wiki normally i don't like using it but this is really nothing serious
The word "football", when used in reference to a specific game can mean any one of those described above. Because of this, much friendly controversy has occurred over the term football, primarily because it is used in different ways in different parts of the English-speaking world. Most often, the word "football" is used to refer to the code of football that is considered dominant within a particular region. So, effectively, what the word "football" means usually depends on where one says it.
The name "soccer" (or "soccer football") was originally a slang abbreviation of the word "association" from "association football" and is now the prevailing term in the United States, Canada, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand where other codes of football are dominant.
Of the 45 national FIFA affiliates in which English is an official or primary language, only three (Canada, Samoa and the United States) actually use "soccer" in their organizations' official names, while the rest use football (although the Samoan Federation actually uses both). However, in some countries, such as Australia and New Zealand, use of the word "football" by soccer bodies is a recent change and has been controversial. The governing body for Rugby Union in New Zealand changed its name from "New Zealand Rugby Football Union" to "New Zealand Rugby Union" in 2006

altho i will say that american football is a much more exciting game to watch, i think it is pretty stupid to call it football since the ball does touch a foot sparingly. but then again there's a lot of foot action, all the running and dodging so technically it ain't so bad

lol american catchball
I can't stand american football, takes too damn long. why do four fifteen minute periods of play take 3 hours?
and it always makes me laugh when they call the winner of the super bowl the 'world' champion...really I don't remember seeing any other countries playing =P

about the world series that is pretty funny calling them world championships. especially compared to many of the countries around the world we suck! we can't beat cuba or japan. well only in little league but even then rarely

once again, there's no way any team anywhere in the world would be able to challenge the winner of either the superbowl or world series, or even come close
professional baseball and football leagues outside of the MLB and NFL respectives are jokes comparatively

apparently running up and down a field in 6 layers of padding carrying a ball in your hands is 'football.'
apparently running up and down a field kicking a ball with your foot is 'soccer'
