No worries then, would have liked to hear a few different styles but just Hardcore will be ok.

I would have too but I think it just saves hastle and arguments making it Hardcore only.

I know, i understand where people are coming from. Hardcore it is.

It's a production comp and we're using abysmal quality to judge.... why?

I don't know about this really. I guess we want people to hear the whole track and to put them up at a higher bit rate means nothing can be signed or anything. Don't think that's really a good road to go down? I'm 100% sure that tracks of a signable quality will come out of this so...

As you say it is a production comp' but I think a lot of the focus will be on your track writing ability. Obviously people aren't going to vote for something that is a complete mess mix wise but what percentage of people off the board who are voting will have trained enough ears to really benifit from comparing mixes at 192 rather than 128? Not many I doubt.

The other option I guess is to post clips...? That brings lots more complications though.

Wow another production competition. Seems like only yesterday since the last one :) It's good to see people keeping it going.
As for 128 kbps tracks, i don't think it makes any difference since it has no bearing on the quality of the music or production whatsoever. 128 kbps is a very acceptable quality, you should be able to hear everything fine. Your not going to hear anything at 320 kbps that you won't at 128 that has any importance when it comes to judging. It might be a problem if it was 56 kbps though.

I tend to agree

I think the mixdown isn't as important as the actual musical content in a competition like this, since the winning track would probably get a new mixdown/some changes if it was to get signed.

128 is fine for casual listening and a well produced track should sound good even at low bitrates...

That's the reason for doing it though. It's too bad for people to put on mixes or play out but good enough to judge which you like more. :)

It sounds good enough to judge the musical content/level of production and too crappy to sound good in a club (ie, it's perfect).
