the bateries and shaving products are there because it's harder to steal them from there. they are usually rather expencive and small. supermarkets lose a massive ammout of $$ from people stealing batteries and shaving products.
in sweden when i was there a couple years ago you took a scanner around when u did the shopping and scanned everything as you put it in the trolley, then when you get to the checkout you hand them the scanner pay and go. no lines at all
