I miss the funny noises and the ear-splitting grinding sound used as a melody, like in Edit V's "Music Is Moving" and DJ Vibes' "Hardcore Business".

2 fantastic tunes they are

But do you know what I am talking about, that scraping sound used as the melody? I looove that.

Maybe people mean trance like DJ Splash ( I never understood why he's called DJ Splash btw, never heard a mix from him ).

mmm well, to be bluntly honest the line between Cheesy Trance and Eurodance is very blurred,

and frankly, debating what style Cascada and DJ Sammy are is on the bottom of my list of things to do, right after pulling my own nuts off with a rusty tongs.

my point is, i knew/know what they mean and were referencing :)
and besides - "hands up"?....

euro-trance..subgenre of trance...so i would say they are pretty justified in saying trance..seeing as euro-trance is a subgenre

this still doesnt help me with jumpstyle/hardstyle

Yeah I read that, lol "Stylistic origins : Happy Hardcore".. I didn't know uplifting house/trance has influences from Happy Hardcore :P

Anyway, do you think this here sounds like progressive/uplifting trance ?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmGbgT9gUN8

Don't think so. This goes more in the direction of Hardbass/Hardstyle. Most tracks like that are actually on Hardbass compilations.

I thought Euro-Dance was pretty much outdated and that it was just poppy-like trance.

You can't say that Hardcore's going to sound the same because it never used too. I mean the basics are the same but practically every choon sounded different to the other. Not now.

lmao @ Hardcore is just Trance!! OK Hardcore a few years ago was Trancey sounding but it's far from being the same.
Been listening to quite a bit of Trance lately. Mainly stuff on YouTube though as i'm not that clued up on it yet.

I think Hardbass is just a compilation featuring Handsup, Hard Trance and some Hardstyle. I don't know I'm not sure, but my cousin own a lot of those.

Oh and btw, "Hardbass" or "Handsup" sounds just as stupid as "Hardcore".

You could aswell say "House" sounds stupid. Why House ?? Why not Flat ? Or Garden ?!

dont forget garage!

there is a line, and think calling things "hands up" "arms down" "feet spread" and "cock out" is just pushing it. just because people who are into trance dont want cheesy trance assocaited with trance, try and split it off into a completly brand new genre which has nothing to do with them...when at the end of the day its just cheeeeeeeesy trance

same with jumpstyle and hardstyle, bet there are some headstrong hardstyle-heads out there who will insist that hardstyle has absolutly nothing to do with jumpstyle

Could not agree more, and LOL. As for Hardstyle and Jumpstyle though there is a very clear difference when it comes to ACTUAL Hardstyle and ACTUAL Jumpstyle; you just need to hear the genres properly. Hearing only the commercial side of any genre is a terrible representation (not that you have, but if you have).

You wanna try learning to read mate. As i said in an earlier post. THERE ARE SOME GOOD CHOONS OUT THERE but the majority of the new stuff is shit.

Isn't hardstyle just hard Hard Trance? I guess Jumpstyle would be a sub-genre of trance too, but I can hardly tell the difference :p

Not really. Usually hardstyle is slower with stronger, gabber-esque kicks. Also unlike hard trance, a majority of hardstyle tunes use the 3/4 time signature. Hard trance usually runs faster with a 4/4 beat, and is, well, dry and heavy in sound. It does have the hard kicks as well, albeit typically with a lot less distortion. Those are the biggest differences if you ask me.

There is some hard trance out there that is borderline hardstyle, though (tracks like Kamui - Arena come to mind).
