I am not asking whether you think it's right or wrong, but is gay marriage legal over there? Thanks to our politicians over here, the USA is in a heated battle over whether same sex marriage should be allowed or not. Whenever a state legalizes it, some Conservative Christian organization overrules it. Just wondering if it's as big a deal over there as it is here.

yes, it is legal in England, not such a big deal
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Same-sex_marriage_in_the_United_Kingdom even our Arch Bish condones it. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/faith/article4473814.ece its crazy! over here they EVEN let you listen to dance music without being ridiculed! :P *edit* backtracking for a second there you have to really define "marriage" first, because in legal terms marriage indicates Christian/Church etc etc...whereas people who dont get married in a chruch its called a Civil Partnerships/Unions and performed in a civil ceremony. why any gay person would want to have a christian wedding is completely beyond me anyway.

Because this nation is so dead straught on having religious freedom, yet it dictates so many things. Including what parties claim to be, and what they "stick to", and it affects so many laws we try to pass that just get over-ruled.
Kind of stupid.
Gays just want same-sex "marriage", a union of two in legal papers, that still follow in the ways a Christian wedding is set up. But, because Christians go "OH NOEZ NO IN TEH BIBLE IT NO SAI U CAN GAY" almost every attempt to legalize something is over-turned.
****ing stupid.
No offense to Christians, but no one can clearly define the bible. And they just want to bonded and legally said they are, what's so bad about that? If you believe gays shouldn't get married, oh well. They're gonna go to hell anyway, right? Just let them live their lives they want to, and stop forcing your religion on everything in a supposedly separation of Church and State country.
Pfft.
Another reason why the UK is better then here.
I want some tea and crumpets.
Cricket anyone?

OneNOnly: Can you please elaborate on this statement?

From my reading of the bible, in general its pretty clear cut and definitely definite on the gay marriage issue.

Meh, I've only read like..a page?
Haha, I'm not an expert on it.
From what I've been told there's arguments against it within the bible too. Could I truly tell you? Not really, just going off what I've heard multiple people say. Couldn't give you a true opinion on it anyway! It's everyone's right to interpret it the way they wish.

while there can be exceptions (depending on who you ask), that is typically an oxymoron don't you think?

oxymoron indeed i would say,
when you start to change pillars of belief structures that christianity has about marriage to suit modern day ideals changing views etc i would say the further away you get from actually being able to call yourself christian.
i know alot of people who are christians (my family lol!) who dont have a problem with homosexuals getting married in a civil ceremony..i dont know their feelings on actually allowing homosexuals to get married in a church under the watchful eye of their god, who has never really got back in contact with them to correct his views on marriage between a man and a woman..
back to my original point i think in a way its like the old theseus ship paradox

Since when did God or Jesus have something against homosexuals? ...or when did Christians take bible literally to begin with? Also you would be suprised how many there are that don't even follow their churches views. Here about 50% believe in god in a different way then the church. Which is a big number since about 78% said they believe in god (about the same amount as there are evangelic lutherans here).

i think it was around the bit where god exterminated an entire city who wanted same sex marriages..that whole soddom thing
i have no idea if that was before or after he killed off all those first borns ;)
i dont know how surprised i would be?..i grew up in a very christian family - both my mum and dad eventually broke away from the methodist christian church we went to on sundays to become members of the salvation army, though we still went to the same methodist church (though views from salvationist and methodist do differ)
my original (second) point being what with all these sects...views on how to "interpret" or just throw out what they dont want..bring in what should be there...bring in whole new books *eyes the mormons*..i still say it brings up a bit of a theseus ship paradox
i like to bang on about theseus's ship as its one of my favorites paradoxes to sit around and ponder when i have nothing to do lol
christianity dont really have a very gay friendly history..
im not a christian myself, havent been since i was 10?...no i dont think i was ever really a christian anyway but the way i see it is that if you are gay, and part of a religion that doesnt condone same sex marriage or sees your sexuality as "un-natural" then simply - you're in the wrong religion.. like black man thinking its a great idea to join the KKK, then complaining because a few of them take a dislike to the music of NWA..

Faith is made to be interpreted differently to everyone, though.
People go into it for certain reasons, and take out different things then everyone else from a religion. It's hard to find someone who takes Christianity to the letter anymore. It's not what it used to be in terms of what it used to be.
Hard to find anyone now that is following their religion to the letter, none of them are the same. At least, the major ones. It's "adapted" for better or for worse, and people view things WAY differently then they did.
It's funny, though, because most Christians that truly don't want gay's being "married" are just homophobic, and have almost always never actually cared to learn why they want to be "married", or what their views are.
Majority of the time they're the same...just the marriage thing might be "off".
