Thanks for the positive review :) I saw all sorts of theories on the forums as to what the CD would be like, be it a hardcore/rave breaks mix, or updates of oldskool tunes, so you weren't the only one!
As for the sporadic breakbeat thing, that's a fair call. An initial thought was to lump it all to the beginning of the CD, and whilst I personally LOVE breakbeat hardcore, and more and more producers are starting to produce it (hell, if Styles / Gammer can do it and not commited career-suicide...*cough*), it may not have gone down too well en-masse, and there's nothing worse than having to skip the first third of a CD just to get to the 4/4 stuff.
We wanted to stray from anything which could be deemed as "formulaic". Slippers and I are as eclectic as they come, so the tracklist was set like this to keep things interesting. Even if we did stick all the breakbeat at the beginning, it would have effectively mirrored CD2, sans gabber. Our CD was mixed last, and we wanted to make sure that all 4 CD's were different ;)
Thanks again for the comments, glad you enjoyed the mix. :)

Actually i am a HU supporter also and i have bought all of them and i do like a diverse spectrum of hardcore. I also buy alot of gabber Cd's from europe as well as Clubland extreme. What i'm saying is that this one (HU5) isn't worthy of it's heritage. I will support HU6 and i hope it's alot better than this one but if i don't voice my opinion of what i don't like about this one then i would have no right to comment on the next one. Just because i can appreciate another series doesn't mean i am a type of person lol.

My opinion through the mixes (I guess its more or less similar to the others' before me):
CD1: Technikore does better music (My intention, etc.), Al Storm does better music (Droppin bombz, great remixes, etc.), so I'm a bit disappointed with this mix. I understand the aim of the mix, but a commercial mix for the masses can be still true to uk hardcore. There's no place for minimal/electro in this genre, uk hardcore should remain uk hardcore, not house music at 175 bpm.
CD2: The best mix (though the 3rd CD is a close second). That's what uk hardcore should be about! Vocals, good tunes, pulsating basslines, and spicing the whole with a bit of hardcore breaks and gabba. I must admit, I'm a huge Darwin fan, he produces the highest quality music nowadays, I don't really understand why doesn't he get a mix on his own... Brisk & Darwin feat. Taya: Life's A Journey - the best track on the album!
CD3: I couldn't imagine how these two guys could work together in a mix, but wow... It was a great choice! I wasn't bored listening to this mix, great tracks, my favs: Darwin & Koopa vs. Phenex feat. Le Kat: Shape Of Love (though the tune is from HIM's Join me) and Brisk & Darwin: Every Time ('90s Revival Mix). Entity is an extremely talented guy, I hope he will get recognition and remain the member of the HU team.
CD4: I was very frightened when Kev Energy announced his retirement and it seems Sharkey is not really active in production any more. I love freeform and this genre shouldn't die, it deserves more then it gets today. I'm really happy that these new djs and producers carry on the flag. The mix is very-very good. I like purist freeform too, but adding vocals to freeform music is a good idea (I know, most of the freeform-fans won't agree with me in this one).
Overall:
I must admit, I'm not really happy with dubstyle sneaking into uk hardcore tracks. I know that's the trend, but why uk hardcore producers have to follow that?
Anyway, the album is great, I couldn't decide if it was better than HU4 (I would rather say it's different), but HU remains the flagship of the scene, that's for sure.
And a request, a wish for the future HU albums: please, please make a Darwin - Entity mix on one of them! That would be heaven on earth!

CD1
01. CLSM feat. Lisa Abbott - Time Bomb (Al Storm Remix)
2/5 - I liked the vocals, I liked the eventual melody, but ruined by the crappy intro and minimal drops
02. Technikore feat. Jenny J - Lights Down Low
4/5
03. Al Storm, Technikore & JTS - Sheltered
5/5 - I can hear JTS' influence in this and combined with Technikore, it works very well
04. Sy & Unknown - Hardcore Style
1/5 - Nothing happened, then a sample happened, then weird noises happened. Not music
05. Scott Brown & Al Storm - All About Evolution
1/5 - Nothing more spectacular than the originals. I dont see the point, myself
06. Sy & Technikore - The City Is Mine
4/5 - This was on HH, so its a shame it was recycled. Good tune nevertheless. SB style
07. Black & White vs. Intraspekt & Outsider - Get Ya Hands Up!
5/5 - Sick tune, very nice. Though strange place to suddenly have a BB track
08. Unique - With Or Without You
2/5
09. Technikore, JTS, Wain Johnstone & Kato - Supersonik
2/5 - Interesting sounds and buildup, but a wasted potential
10. Al Storm feat. Taya - So Much Stronger
1/5 - Melody was nice, but this was the point I felt the CD contained too much of the same by the same
11. Al Storm - Euphoria
5/5 - Liked this from the sample on SC
12. Technikore & JTS feat. Alan Booth - We'll Run Away
2/5 - Cant stand those vocals, but the instrumental is spectacular
13. Fracus & Darwin feat. Lisa Abbott - Falling Out Of Love
4/5 - A nice tune, well written
14. Al Storm & MOB - Poltergeist
0/5 - I'm employing a 0/5 rule here, just because this has a constant rhythm doesnt make it music. Its a horrible track, sorry... :|
15. Breeze & Styles - Feel The Power (Technikore Remix)
4/5 - This was much better. I really liked this
16. Al Storm & Euphony feat. Vicky Fee - Give A Little Bit Of Love
4/5 - Not a style I normally like, but this was very nice indeed
17. Technikore, Al Storm & JTS - This Is How It's Done
3/5 - I liked the growly noise. A better minimal sort of thing
18. Technikore & Minty feat. Nathalie - Betrayed
4/5
19. Sy & Technikore - The Fly (VIP Mix)
0/5 - How did it take 2 of hardcore's most creative minds to make this shit? I mean come on??!! I couldnt even bite my tongue at this, I had to change the tune....
20. Dougal & Gammer vs. Al Storm feat. Jenna & MC Whizzkid - Essential Mega-Muffin
1/5 - I wonder how much D&G paid for this to feature for a bit of extra promotion... I like the individual tracks - well some of them, so I dont need a mini mix on an underground CD.
21. Al Storm vs. Plus System feat. Taya - Run To Me
3/5 - Generic, but not bad
22. Fracus & Darwin - Step Down
4/5 - Decent elements for the most part, but stuff in there that was retarded
23. Technikore - Somebody
2/5 - Generic, and lacks the power that a vocal tune needs
24. Sy & Al Storm feat. Meri Everett - Lonely (Abused Mix)
5/5 - Actually kind of liked this. Its a newer and unique take on a vocal track
25. Al Storm - Hardcore 2 The Bone!
2/5 - Different, but completely unsuitable for the CD. PS. I dont like it much
26. Darren Styles - Rock Me Out (Al Storm & Technikore's Chopper Mix)
3/5 - Average, nice qualities
27. Sy & Technikore - The Nerve Centre
3/5 - Nice SB style tune, but I've heard it elsewhere, and too many times
28. Technikore & JTS - Payback
1/5 - Random gabber. I hate hearing bad stuff from these guys because I know that behind that urge to make shit, there's talent in them somewhere.
64/140

CD2
01. Entity & Chwhynny - Can You Hear The Silence
4/5 - Very nice intro and tune
02. Fracus & Darwin vs. CLSM feat. Indie-Go Blue - Chime
4/5 - Again nice vocals and bassline for the drops, but did get boring a few mins in
03. Sam B - Burning Up
5/5 - Cant get enough of this, a tune that has a great bassline and blend of old styles
04. Fracus & Darwin - Ganja Crew
3/5 - Started with a nice piano rhythm and breaks, tailed off though.
05. Fracus & Darwin feat. Becca Hossany - Got The Rhythm
3/5
06. JAKAZiD - Movin' To This
5/5 - Cant look beyond the music here, this is an absolute anthem, and one of the best on the CD
07. Brisk & Darwin vs. DMO - My Heartbeat
4/5 - Good tune, and made the most out of average vocals (imo)
08. Fracus - Madjik
2/5 - It was good for about 45 seconds, but its not like Fracus to be short of ideas, which is how it sounds
09. Fracus & Darwin feat. Becca Hossany - Hypnotic
3/5 - Decent track, but not my preferred style
10. Brooklyn & Dan Edge - Lose You Again
2/5 - Sick of the vocals, I've never really considered them that good.
11. M-Project - Route 143 (TANUKI Remix)
5/5 - Another contender for best tune on the album! This one's a beast! Melodic music at its best.
12. Buzz & Stevie D feat. Jessica Palmer - Goodbye (Fracus & Darwin Remix)
1/5 - This track begged for a melody, but had possibly the worst possible drop
13. Daniel Seven - Blessed Loneliness
5/5 Beautiful and euphoric anthem.
14. Brisk & VAGABOND - Shouting Out (Fracus & Darwin Remix)
3/5 - A pretty standard track, would have fit better on CD1 though
15. Bishop & Tom Revolution - The New Style
3/5 - I liked this track but felt it could better utilize the melody and theramin style synth
16. Styles & Breeze feat. Recon - Love Sick Crazy (Fracus & Darwin Remix)
3/5 - Its a nice remix and all, but I never liked the vocals for the track. The Bonkers 15 instrumental remains my favourite.
17. Brisk & Darwin vs. Taya - Life's A Journey
4/5 - A nice track, but not a standout one. Vocals are powerful, however
18. Brisk & Fracus - Falling Into You
1/5 - I felt the melody was too weak, amongst other things
19. Brisk & Darwin - Break The Concrete
1/5 - This one was one I enjoyed either. What annoys me is the use of a classical track, its a landmark point that I press "Skip"
20. Brisk & Fracus - Radio Rockin' 2011
4/5
21. Brisk & Ham - Sex Toys
1/5 - Ham is better off in D&B, because if this is him returned to produce a hardcore track, its bitterly disappointing
22. Double Dutch - Bulletproof
3/5 - Loved the melody, but I hate the way gabber takes the modulation out of basslines
23. Paul Elstak feat. Beatstream & Radiate - I'm Not An Addict (Brisk Remix)
4/5 - Vocals are amazing. Melody is amazing. But I hoped for a less gabber influenced number from Brisk. While what he did was nice, I thought he could have made more of the melody and taken it further away from the original.
24. Art Of Fighters - God's Fury
3/5
25. Neophyte & Tha Playah - Snitcher
3/5
26. Kasparov - Pitch Black (Kasparov Remix)
3/5 - I dont know what to add really. I liked it, but one of those tracks I'd normally ignore at the end of a CD
82/130
63%
CD3
01. Gavin G - Sky
5/5 - Never had GG down as someone who could produce this, but its amazing
02. StrifeII - Petrichor
5/5 - Amazing one from StrifeII, why he hasnt excelled further than hardcore is a mystery
03. Shimamura - Energize (Renegade Slammer)
4/5 - Liked the piano lines and the composition, and reminded me of Lost of Balham
04. Fracus & Darwin - No Disguise
4/5 - Vocals are great, but wasted a little here. Why are Fracus & Darwin doing these weird minimal bridges
05. Kingsize & Eternity - A Touch Of Magic (Uplift & Stargazer 2011 Remix)
2/5 - Didnt like the vocals, not by this vocalist. The remix just sounded weak to me
06. CLSM - I Will Wait (Fracus & Darwin Remix)
3/5 - AMAZING vocals, the original is something to admire, but this dubstep kind of remix is hit and miss. For me a miss.
07. Samba D - Summer
4/5 - Never heard of Samba D, but this is Okay, the slowed tempo was a nice touch, but can only work once in a mix (imo)
08. Chris Ross & Audioshift - Driving Me Crazy
2/5 - Bassline, breaks and vocals didnt fit the bill for me. I felt they were a little too weak for what the producers were invisioning
09. Entity & Sam B - Can't Get Enough
3/5 - A nice take on some classic vocals
10. Darwin & Koopa vs. Phenex feat. Le Kat - Shape Of Love
2/5 - Not really keen on vocalist on this one, not the familiar melody (original Heaven Scent?)
11. Sc@r - Acid Porn Monkey
3/5 - A track that suits its purpose, I think its a fun track, but not suited at all for the CD. Sam B remix won the competition. Using his remix should have been a no-brainer
12. Slipmatt & Darwin - Only For Me
3/5 - Uninspiring, but not bad by all means
13. Fracus & Darwin feat. Cat Knight - Love Obsession (SMD Remix)
1/5 - Just wasnt at all as good it could have been, I'm pained to say
14. Al Storm & The Acolyte - Falling Through (CLSM Remix)5
4/5 - When has CLSM ever made a bad track? This is a typically good tune
15. TANUKI - Hollow
4/5 - A nice track, but a CLSM or D&F remix might give the track the power and emotion it really deserves. This version sounds like something is missing, a little empty
16. Dain-Ja feat. Vicky Fee - Feel So High (No Left Turn Remix)
2/5 - A hit or miss one, either you do it right, or fall short. This is short by some margin (imo)
17. Fracus & In Effect feat. Sam Honey - Dream Of The Moment
3/5
18. Raving Donkey - Irish Sunrise
4/5 - A very nice track, the piano's are remarkbly nice, but other elements let the track down. The flute, for example.
19. Firefly - Sunflower (Sam B Remix)
4/5 - Liked the piano, bassline and square synth, and a good BB tune
20. Kevin Energy - Waves Of Desire (Karl Future's Hardcore Junglist Remix)
3/5 - I can see what Karl was going for here, and the remix has nice qualities
21. Fracus & Tom Revolution - Wake Up Call
1/5 - Honestly unsure what this track was doing on the CD - like the Sc@r track
22. Ultravibes - Dust (Pulse Remix)
4/5 - A great remix, but as I said to Pulse, I felt the melody could have had an extra octave up layered onto it. No doubt a great tune
23. Entity - Did You See It
5/5 - Entity linked me to the sample and instantly fell in love with it. Its an impossibly good tune. Full of emotion. I didnt see it, but I ****ing heard it.
24. Ham - One & Only
3/5 - I swear this ones a few years old? Well its nice, but not a stand-out track
25. Entity & Darwin feat. MC Sharkey - 21 Days
5/5 - Love the MCing on this. I never understood why Sharkey never featured himself in more music with his MCing. It was always good and often funny to hear.
26. DJ Demand - Stay With Me (Darwin Remix)
5/5 - Charged with the amazing power that Darwin can inject into his music.
27. Brisk & Darwin - Every Time (90's Revival Mix)
3/5 - I can see why people will enjoy this, but I cant find that love for the track. The bridge at 1:31 is sick, though
91/135

CD4
01. A.B & Solution - NanEater (HU Intro Mix feat. Dark Angel)
3/5
02. A.B & Synthwulf - Genre This!
4/5 - Great modern freeform track. Bassline gives the kick a hard disguise
03. Haywire - Weekend!
2/5 - Good song, but not sure it fits entirely on a Freeform CD
04. Pinnacle & Ben Av-It - Future Skool
1/5 - Yeah erm, what album is this?
05. A.B - Stay With Me (Greg Peaks Remix)
4/5 - I liked the piano's and the cheeky edge to the track
06. Darts feat. Kelly C - Show Me Love (Deeper Territory Remix)
3/5
07. Endemic - The Prophet
3/5 - Its nice, but I dont like tracks that have vocals like this that sound completely out of tune. If sounding deaf is cultural, I'm glad I live in this culture.
08. Kevin Energy & Rik Arkitech feat. Rhona - State Of Life
3/5 - Didnt like the vocals too much, but the instrumental is nice, which helps
09. Douglas feat. Dionne - Air
3/5 - These are dreadful vocals in my opinion, but the instrumental side is a stomper
10. X-Cyte feat. Freda - Without You (Cube::Hard Remix)
4/5 - Cube::Hard pulls out a decent track here. I like it
11. Rampant, Obie & Darwin - Beyond Us (Douglas Remix)
4/5 - Solid track, enjoyed it
12. Cube::Hard & Douglas - Codex
5/5 - Reminds me of so many mid 00's tracks. Notablyably Subfocus stuff. Amazing track
13. Kevin Energy & A.B - Sin 4 Me (A.B's Trouse Remix)
2/5 - Didnt really want to hear a take on this. Its a remix of Hybrid Symphony right? Oh I get it
14. Lost Soul - Warlock (Cube::Hard Remix)
3/5 - Nice breakdown
15. Endemic - Investatron 3000
4/5 - Weirdly hard dance sounding, worked reasonably well
16. Firefarm & Kevin Energy - Beaker Face
3/5 - Nice parts of the vocal, such as at the start. Other areas not so much. Great drop
17. Transcend - Domination
4/5 - Definitely a good track, but drop the 'domination' sample. Its far too overused, and in my mind adds an amateurish sound. You hear a lot of cheap poorly done hardstyle tracks using the same sort of sample
18. Douglas & Remane - Disorder
5/5 - Love the melody, love the synths used. All all round beautiful composition
19. Transcend - Zero-G Fire
2/5 - It was all going swimmingly until the stupidly loud dubstep showed its face
20. Andy Dee - Solas An Lae (Douglas HU5 Remix)
5/5 - One of the best tracks I've heard all year
21. A.B - Escapia
5/5 - Reminds me of too many trance tunes, but that hasnt stood in the way of a beautiful breakdown ripping awesomely into a drop
22. Rik Arkitech & Douglas - False Religion
3/5
23. Kevin Energy & A.B - Reform Your Freeform
5/5 - One of those few tunes that gives me that chill of inspiration. Best tune on the album without a doubt, and something that'd be hard to beat even on an old Sharkey mix on one of the mid 00's Bonkers. Oustanding. THEN THE PIANO BREAKDOWN OCCURRED
24. A.B & Douglas - Fin
5/5 - Reminds me of an old Double Decka track. Amazing breakdown rolling into the drop
85/120

Now you can ride on those scores how you like. Ive based it on the music and nothing else. These scores aren't relative to anything, but if its above 50% I liked most of it.

Almost forgot to followup on the other 2 cds:
CD3 is just.... WOW! It has quickly become my new favorite (although I still love CD2). All the tracks flow great together, and there were no tracks that I would consider as filler tracks like in the first CD. Loved it from beginning to end! And it has one of my current favorite ham tracks The One An Only!
CD4 is great as well. I love what Douglas and A.B have done in the freeform scene, they pretty much took it to the next level where good old Kevin left off. He certainly has spent a great deal of time showing these two the ropes!
going back to CD1, I was a bit harsh on it seeing as I only listened to it once before commenting. After giving it a few more listens, it has grown a bit on me. Although I still believe the first half is weaker than the second, the mixing is lacking compared to the other 3 CDs, and there are some songs that just are out of place in it.
It's a nice concept to include these two in the HU series, but for me Hardcore Underground has always been about giving a platform to the underrated, underexposed, and under-appreciated in the hardcore scene. Still feel that even after so much success, Fracus, Darwin, and Entity are just that compared to Technikore and Al Storm.
as far as HU6 goes, I would love to hear the return of a Brisk & Ham CD, of course Darwin and Fracus (together or separate), and definitely make a Luna-C vs someone else happen! Oh and of course 2 djs per cd :)

HMV placed an order for more store-bound units ( I saw 3 more in Leamington Spa HMV today ) so if you want to grab it in person that's always an option!

A few thousand, and well over 2/3 are gone
(We're expecting the release to be deleted before Xmas)
The HMV thing has really thrown us; once the release date slipped we'd pretty much given up on many units ending up in stores. Yet we've got ~3 copies being restocked in a bunch of stores, over the UK, in the 3rd week of release. Which is by far the best support we've ever had, at a time where they've scaled back the music section yet further to put iPads and headphones in.
Perhaps there is a God, *and* he is merciful, after all!

HMV is where I got mine from. I took 1/3 of the store's HU5 stock at the time.
