Hi to all I havent had the pleasure to meet yet but im new on this forum. So when is a Rave a Rave and how do you define a Rave as you see it. Ill start you off.
For me a rave is a state of mind. Its that coming together of masses of people who have all come to have a good time. Theres no fighting no bickering you just get up and do it. Whatever IT maybe you just please yourself in there and have a good time. So for me it is most deffinately a state of mind. Thats what makes the difference between the good raves and the amazing raves in my opinion but hey, lets face it everyone has an opinion on every subject so now I wanna hear yours...

The people and the music are what makes a rave IMO.

humn... a rave can be anything really... i suppose the atmosphere plays a bit part really - i rekkon its just the whole vibe of an event....

Rave is a state of mind,yes, but for me it is an eclectic night of music from many genres joined at the hip. It comes from the old free party scene but has taken dance music as its main forum. Rave is a festival, a carnival of up for it like minded beings. Rave weather some like it or not covers all dance music freaks. For a long time it was an untrendy word, but for me, who has always considered my self a raver. It is coming back.
Rave is bigger than all of us and long may it continue

Pretty much agree with him there.
I think a rave is when a group of people come together and unite to listen
to a dj/PA,and nobody cares what you look like where you're from and nobody cares how you dance because everybodys havin such a good time.

So if I have a tea party with a bunch of stuffed animals and have Shooting Star playing in the background is that a rave? As long as we have the vibe of course. Hey, you said anything! ;)

People and the music do make a rave but also drugs are a contributing factor in the make up of a rave. We wouldn't have a "rave" nowadays as we know it without them *shrugs*

We have dance parties here in Sydney all the time, organised by all sorts of different promoters and stuff. They all have DJ's playing electronic music, trippy visuals, and copious drug use amongst the participants. Are the all raves? No.
AFAIC for a party to be a rave its crowd must be predominantly made up of ravers - yes, I know it's a circular argument. At the end of the day it's really in the eye of the beholder as to what is a rave and what isn't.

a rave isn't a rave until you have some famous crap dj (ex. oakenfold) that gets payed entirely too much to perform and the door cost is like $30 and upwards to see them =P

it's the people who make up a rave. dress up nice,listen to shitty trance and knock any guy out who's after your bird/some lass you're after and all,then that's clubbing. at a rave nearly anything goes,the atmosphere's better and you're there to have a laugh.

Quite simply, its all about the PLUR.
It doesn't matter what music is playing, which DJ is on, or the size of the event..... its the atmosphere. It could be in a warehouse in the middle of nowhere with 5000 people, or it could be in a poky little club in the back streets of your town, as long as the vibes right, then AFAIC its a rave
