As some of you may have heard, there was a massive fight/riot down on one of Sydney's southern beaches yesterday, Cronulla.
I wanna talk about it. The entire racial fued has been brewing for years. A small minority from the lebanese community has been causing un neccesary trouble in various parts of Sydney, and finally climaxed last sunday (the 4th) when some Australian volunteer lifesavers were bashed by something like 50 lebanese men.
Not cool.
From SMS's that were floating around during the week, a large gathering of 5000 (white) australians met up in Cronulla for a "rematch". Only a handful of lebanese turned up (I think they were just holiday making really) and suffered the boiling hate of 5000 aussies. Also not cool.
Thats pretty much it in a nutshell.
Now I'm not a pure whiteskinned Aussie. I'm from South American descent, which is a bit of a shame if racial tensions are going to fly. I have black curly hair and tanned skin, which in the wrong place, can spell trouble for me. Don't get me wrong, I hate racism with a passion. From seeing photos of lynchings, to the ethnic cleansing in eastern europe, the whole thing scares me because I know that I look different.
On the other hand though, if a group of one particular race or religion deliberately attacks another group, human nature will tell us that there is going to be a huge backlash.
I wanna talk about the whole incident to get your thoughts.

I hate to hear of this kind of thing. I think that regardless of what you believe, you still have the right to live your life without fear.
I find that most of the time the people who get involved in things like this are the mis-informed. I don't see why in this day and age we can't learn to respect individuals and thier color or creed.
It's a great shame that things like this still happen

Aye, I agree with you Mortis, regardless of ethnicity, people have a right to live their lives.
I fear that somehow I'll get targeted for my appearance. (Its happened before).
But some foolish members of the lebanese community have really given their whole race a bad reputation. Ask almost any fair skinned Aussie thats been to auburn/parramatta.

I'm not sure. Its like a chav thing. Infact, its exactly the same as the chav thing. I dont understand why a couple of them gang raped white aussie chicks either. Admittly, justice has been served for the rapists.
The thing is that typical Aussie culture (like the 5000 dudes that got together at the beach) are normally laid back. Extremely relaxed. Something (like beating up volunteer lifeguards) must have ticked them off badly.
Mind you, I'm not on either side here. If racial tension boils, I'm screwed. But I can get along with members of both "sides".

I'm sure that the majority of the Lebanese population just want to live thier lives in peace. It's really a shame that the acts of a few can reflect on the entire community.

heard about this earlier on Fark, at the time it didn't say if anyone was injured or not so I didn't think much of it
apparently things are worse than I had thought
Obviously the people who started this by being retards are not in the right but rioting isn't the answer. Be the better man and correctly punish the ones who committed wrongful acts. Lashing out against a race as a whole with blind hatred just puts you on the level of those who started it.
I really don't know anything about Australia though so I can't really say anything else about it. The Islamic spokesman dude from one of the articles seems to imply that there are problems with the youths in general and the media seems to have painted the lebanese and wogs (what the hell is a wog?) unfairly. I wouldn't be surprised since this happens in America all the time (black kid does something bad? evil and don't know no better! Asian kid does something bad? must be a gangster! white kid does something bad? misled by vidoe games and media inluences, rally the mothers and destroy the video game industry!).

Say if u look in the direction of a leb, he will go 'what the **** u looking at' cus he is with all his mates. I was at a rave a few weeks ago and had to walk a girl to her car. On the way back inside i got harassed outside the door by a pack of lebs.
Before a leb would tell an aussie to **** off. We just turned our backs and ignored them. Now a leb tells an aussie to **** off. He gets the shit kicked out of him.

I understand where you're coming from but making generalizations is never good. There are idiots in all races and ethnicities and there are good, great people in all races and ethnicities. I'm sure you've met aussies you didn't like and I'm sure if you took the time you could find lebanese that you'd like.

i think it had something to do with lebos taking over the australian beaches.
my opinion on this... aussies should kick the crap out of the lebos.

Lebonese are also know in adelaide for gang raping girls and even people of there own islam community
I think its sad, that a group of youths take this wrong route
anyway its the hate that hate produced, 2 wrongs dont make a right
Also shows how controlive the police are, every week on the news they do on about terrorism training and how great the police are when something comes up, well it seems there not so great in real life situations
