Correct me if I'm wrong, but drugs didnt start electronic music did it?
Maybe it wouldn't have been called a "rave" as such, but I think electronic music would've been played with or without drugs, wouldn't it?

No, it didn't. The prototype "raves" were similar to what we call "bush-doofs" (although many of them were indoor) and were basically the nerd's alternative to the frat-house keggers of that era, so instead of hard rock and beer you had electro and acid. The music and drugs went hand-in-hand, and evolved into what we now know as raves.
The question of whether the rave scene could've developed without drugs is pretty academic, anyway. Both elements were present and were attracted to eachother, giving birth to rave. The only way a drug-free "rave scene" could've been born is if there were no drugs in the first place.

for alot of people, the drugs actually came before the music. this is the case with me, and i have been listening for about 2 months now, but have yet to go to a rave.. when i heard the music for the first time while on e, it was so uplifting and moving at the same time that i just had to find out more about it when i was sober. since then i have fallen in love with it, and i know that once i go to my first rave it will forever be a part of my life. i will probably be going to hyperspeed on november 29 and i plan on doing e there, because the drug heightens your senses and your ability to connect with the music on a level that is unreachable whilst sober, as well as your ability to connect with the people around you. i plan on going to raves regularly, but only pilling once every month or two months. i believe that you can love the music to death when sober, but drugs are just to stretch that love to the limit, and also to allow you to dance all night without getting too tired/sore (at the time anyway)
personally, i say drugs are fine at raves, as long as it is done responsibly. if you are taking so much that you are causing problems for the people around you trying to have a good time, then you are taking too much.
it's all just about having a good time.

i get knackered to fast unless i'm on pills, they help me go the distance and carry on afterwards untill the next day. I also like the feeling of being monged and stumbling around, i think it makes me dance better somehow..

Heh. I don't get why people have this idea of "why do people need to take drugs at a rave" - its not a matter of needing to, its a case of wanting to.
And why do people get on their high horse about people who are less keen on raving when they stop taking drugs? Its a big part of the experience for many. Who are you to tell someone that raving has to be about one thing or the other? Its not JUST about the music. If you JUST like the music you would sit at home listening. Its also a social experience, and drugs are a factor in this!
And comments like "drugs are for people who dont know how to have a good time" are just laughable :D

That's gotta be one of the stupidist things I have ever read! You think that when People take drugs they don't have a good time? What would be the point otherwise?

Lol - brilliant.... you must've taken some seriously evil concoction of drugs for a particularly sustained period of time to have such a terribly minute grasp of the basics of the English language.
Congratulations!

feel free to correct me if I am wrong, but in this case doesn't alcohol generally count as a drug, cos if so I am so for its use, but otherwise no - nothing against ppl who do it, just don't meself.

It certainly is! Why cigarettes and alcohol are legal and certain controlled substances are not is another discussion entirely.

To be honest I think that as it is alcohol is so readily accessible for people under 18 it really makes little difference, but it is true that public perception about alcohol is really far more favourable than it should be (and I know, I nursed the WORST hangover this morning ) The star in my name isn't there for nothing
