Best Rave i ever went to was "Every Picture, Tells A Story" while it wasn't a happy hardcore rave (there almost unheard of in melbourne )it is still my best rave, but i went there straight nothing has even come close... altho being on the gear gives you a different love for an event...

(( Lol, dug this thread up because it interested me ... I did my English Extension 2 Major Work on drug use/raves ... ))
Personally, I say yay to some drugs at raves. A bit of charge to help keep me going.
But other than that, the issue isn't whether drugs should or should not be part of the scene. Inevitably, drugs will always have a major role in the rave culture due to the nature of electronic music. The focus should in fact be the promotion of responsible use.
For the sake of the scene, the line needs to be drawn between drug use and drug abuse.
What gives ravers such a bad reputation is not merely the idea of drug use. Think about it, almost every sub-culture -- particularly in modern youth -- has connotations of narcotics use. The negative image the mainstream has of the rave culture doesn't stem merely from the fact that we use drugs, but from the fact that we abuse substances. No other sub-culture has been as hounded as we: stoners are presented as loveable goofs (think 'Jay and Silent Bob'), punks as lovers of music and anarchy, goths as deep thinkers, et. al. But ravers, despite the honourable message of Peace, Love, Unity and Respect, are just dirty little junkies.
The mass media has been able to create images of ravers as being such worthless "addicts" purely because of the tendencies of some of the culture's members to abuse substances. If you've seen one smacked out kid in furry pants vomiting in an anti-drug campaign, you've seen them all. By feeding off such images of ravers who've taken it too far to an appalled public, the stereotype repeatedly rears its ugly head.
I hate to point fingers, but more often than not it's the newbie kids who think it's uber-cool to wear cheerleaders outfits spelling MDMA or articles of clothing over-embellished with large letter E's that perpetuate and re-affirm such stereotypes by abusing drugs. In fact, for these kids, the ecstasy has become synonymous with rave culture - a rave consists merely of a cocktail of drugs and some oil massages here and there. And as always, peer pressure being the bitch that it is, the race to find out who's "coolest" starts. The junkie part comes later, and it's not always the kids' fault. What makes it more difficult to promote safe use is the addictive nature of a lot of party drugs, especially amphetamines.
There's not a lot we can do about the "newbie factor". For the scene to continue to exist, obviously it needs to attract new members. But what we all need to do, for the sake of the music, is to make sure we get across the message that drugs ARE NOT COOL. That doesn't mean you have to stop using them, it just means you need to start using them responsibly. Test pills, find a reliable source, do your research, know your limits. That's all. Then there would be no focus on ravers as "addicts" or "junkies". Think about it, the hippies (despite rampant acid and weed use) managed to create social upheaval. Why? Because they focused on more than just the drugs of the culture.

Whoa, I got carried away there! I didn't mean to write a frickin' essay
Summarised, what I meant to say was: If you can't be there straight, you shouldn't be there at all.

i actually read all of that and really agree with it as well, admittedly i have been in hell of a state a number of times, and when yr at an event yes a large majority of people will be on certain substances (whether it be Es or alcohol) but well how many ppl du actually see dying? fighting? killing themselves?! the most u ever usually see is 1 fight from some pissed guy, and 1 or 2 kiddies are sometimes stretchered off - for, as you said, overdoing it - but hell the majority of people are there to have a good time to enjoy themseleves - and most of these people are not just drug users, they have lives outside of it all.
i hate ppl who see recreational drug users as junkies. i dont get it, how, most adults say, wud prolly laff if you said u went out got absolutely ratted on vodka, spewed everywhere hit your best mate (lol) and had a headache all the next daywel yeah u get the story. you tell that same peron u went out, dropped 2 pills, danced the night away, drank a hell of a lot of water, came home and had a real bad headache and bad jaws (lol) theyd b goin nuts - 'drugs' lmao i just dont get it!!!
it seems so petty. its a choice you make, your not hurting anyone. personally this last year i have basically quit pills, where as last 2 years i was on quite a lot. other than a few harsh as f*ck come downs i dont reckon it hurt me at all, except for makin me more confident in myself, which cant b a bas thing cus b4 that i was silent wudnt spk 2 anyone!! i have no after affects and i didnt do any worse in general life than otherwise! all my pisshead mates failed all their GCSEs (me, i was off it every weeked and got 9 As!!) and quit college to smoke lambert n butlers.
NOOOOOOO more slating the druggies!!
im not even on em anymore but christ im glad that i did for that time im a much less small minded person for it.

there was a bloke on a dreamscape video that said "drugs at a rave is like alcohol at a kareoke party, it just goes together". At the time i agreed with it, now after being at a few more raves since, i've noticed that more and more people are going straight and not touching anything. I still do pills and bass but not as much as I used to because I'm begining to feel like the odd one out and i feel much beter for it (probebly because i can remember more of the night).

It's a personal choice. Just don't ruin someone elses time by Od'ing or acting like a jerk. Some people can't handle their stuff.
Oh, and also keep those people away who like to tell you they are "SoOoOo f00ked up!"
If you're gonna do it, make it a positive experience and be safe don't do it just to get trashed.
...do it hardcore...

I say drugs before the rave is ok, but i still disapprove of anything more illegal than marijuana. I dont think drugs at raves is a good thing at all, it just makes the bad stereotype of raves that much more true.

I have no problem with people doing drugs around me and at raves/parties, its a personal choice. I dont touch drugs and never have, all i need is a few banging tunes to have a good stomp too.

I think that if u want to take pills at a rave its cool. I personally think that the experience is a lot better when rolling. you dont need them to have a good time but they make it way baetter. Its all about how u want to feel and how much money you want to spend.

I'm against drugs. As in prohibited substances. They are prohibited for a reason.
I don't seen why I need to take an external substance to temporarily change my thinking... I'm wacked enough anywayz
