Some people have been using live dogs and cats as bait in shark fishing on the island of reunion in the indian ocean. I really dont see how anybody could do this...
Ive come across this on the net on the RSPCA webpage and thought id post it on here. Now i know some of you may not be botherd etc but personally i think this is unjustifiable and ive signed the petition.

But this post was just my pennies worth on the subject and of course to post the petition I cant say id ever stick a "live" cat on the barbie

I heard they used feral cats/dogs.
We have a serious problem here with feral animals going...feral.....(doh!)
They do wreck out wildlife....
Using them live bait however, is a different story. Very not cool.

I hate cruelty in general. But I think humans do worse things to each other.
A quick browse of orgish can show you the inexplicable cruelty and hate that some humans can habour against others.

agreed that humans do worse to each other, but its because we can fight back. Animals are more or less defensless if a human put their minds to destroying it. They don't have any say in what goes on in the world but we do. While i am against the cruelty we show towards each other, I still think some people who are so set against it are really irrational in their thinking.
And the hate we have towards each other is only there because it is constantly fueled, which means some one is purposley keeping that hate around. Even if it isn't theire main intention. So i guess you could say they're 'asking for it'.

Even if there was some reason for using live bait I don't think it could be justified, but wouldn't a shark react more to a bleeding dead animal more than a live moving one? I thought they could smell blood miles away etc...

lmao, i am gonna have to disagree with you all and say that petition is the dumbest thing ever. it is a completely different part of the world with completely different culture and you shouldn't be sticking your noses in. don't tell me you have never killed a fly/spider/cockroach, they all feel pain so that is just being hypocritical. hell in any parts of asia they breed dogs primarily to eat, millions are slaughtered annually for food. what is the difference between eating them and eating pork, beef etc etc etc

i read about this in the sun last week and i was appauled at how people can atually hook dogs & cats and use the to capture sharks i realy make me sick to my stomach

I dont care what culture you are, you shouldnt do that to animals. And I have killed bugs in the past, but I try not to. The people that torture animals should all be tortured back.

I have burned ants under a magnifying class, I have poured salt on slugs and chopped them in half with a shovel, and I have placed a beetle or something into a garbage can and dusted it with glitter. Yeah it does have feelings and everytime I do such a thing, I think that I will be going to hell for it (but it doesn't make a difference because I'm going to hell anyways for other reaons). But the thing is, we don't have these creatures that we're torture endlessly as pets or anything that we love...Seeing a cat or dog, or anything that's domesticated would be like seeing your own animal being hurt.
And about how we eat pork and beef...that's one thing I hate about myself. They have fear, they get slaughtered and that negative energy goes into us (maybe that's why we're such angry people?) but that's not the point. I have ideas on how they're being slaughtered, but I've never allowed myself to find out fully how they're killed. I just can't. Anyone watch that PETA video?? I only could watch like 5 seconds of it before having to exit out of the box!

what about all the burgers you eat from fast food places? all their meat comes from poorer countries where when they have to walk the cows they put chilli's under their eyelids to keep them awake. what about all the cosmetics you use that were tested on animals killing 100's of millions annually all in the name of fashion. yes it shouldn't be happening but it does, fishing with a few cats and dogs although appauling is a absolute tiny percentage

I'm more worried about people catching sharks than using cats & dogs for bait as they are more endangered than the 4 legged ones.
I always found it funny how appalled people could get when they find out how the meat on their table gets there, but it's ok if they don't think about it...wtf
I don't know about the rest of you, but I could go for some beef liver and onions right now =P
