You guys wanna have a deep discussion?How bout the growing concerns with Irans nuclear developments and how the focus has completely shifted from the asian region e.g. north korea's nuclear exploits. Or how about the fact that my country(Australia) is about to begin funding a nuclear arms race between china and taiwan.....I am a stern supporter of Taiwans independance and a critic of China's political system....what do you guys think?

I think if both China and Taiwan has nuclear weapons it would be a good thing, it would be a deterant to start a war (mutually assured destruction I think its called)
Not sure what to make of Iran and North Korea, whoever has the least oil is probably safe... then again who know, I don't that quite worked to plan did it Mr. B... wouldn't be suprised if some sort of beef emerged with Venezuela next...

Actually i think the only deterant currently is the U.S. The fact that the US will not support any agression on the part of Taiwan towards the mainland and there has been no move from China as it is feared the US WOULD support Taiwan in the event of war between the countries. The weapons build up is called an "orange race" right?where one side builds defence and the other ups their offence???

I forget China has had nukes for ages , I think they'll do all they can to stop Taiwan from getting them, because if they do China basically can't act, but they could now also probably justify an attack on Taiwan the same way the US could do on Iran...
Doubtful the US would give any support to Taiwan in the form of troops etc, maybe arms tech but I doubt they would want to damage economic relations with China by even doing that...

Well the US does support Taiwans independance even though they do not recognise them as a sovereign state, due to the fact they are democratic unlike the mainland. But the fear of US involvement has stopped China from invading thus far so.....
