I once felt enlightened when I was thinking deeply what religion is and what gods are. Throughout time men (or women) have told it was gods that do things they don't actually know what it is.
Lightning for example, in ancient Greece it was Zeus that was whooping mad and threw lightning bolts everywhere. Up north it was Tor that rode on his chariot and threw his hammer that were the lightnings.
Later science proved that lightning is difference in current between the ground and the clouds (I think).

The sun? In Egypt it was a god (Ra?) that rode on his chariot across the heavens in his eternal glory. One way of worshiping that god was to stare into the sun...
Nowadays we know what the sun is, so Ra is bye bye.

See a pattern here?

In old days Catholicism was (in my eyes) quite evil, burning or excommunicating those who thought differently (scientist anyone? Galileo?) than church. Don't they teach to help your brother or people in need? Well that went out the window when Constantinople needed help against the turks... What did they do? Instead of helping they attacked and looted the city. Helpful.

As George Carlin pointed out, God has a list of things you must not do (the ten commandments) and if you break them you're a sinner, and sinners go to hell and burn and all that. But God loves you.

Today, what is it we don't really know much of? In my opinion it is death. What happens when we die?
And then I found out that today people are saying it is gods work that people die. Why? Because they don't actually know...
What happens if science would prove what happens after death?

One thing I ask, why do people pray? I don't really understand why, so could someone please enlighten me?

People who want to know the truth will find it. Those that do not want the truth will make every excuse for the way they want to live. Making truth whatever they want it to be.

If all there is to life is dying, then why are we living? If there is no God why have any morals? If there is no God how do you explain a never ending universe?

All i know is, that my life was shit and now its not.

1. We're living because it seems more appealing than the alternative.
2. There isn't a need to have morals beyond basic evolutionary impulse. Most morals have something to do with the preservation of our species and the preservation of our ecological niche.
3. How do we know it's never ending? From what science has been able to discern, we take up only an exceptionally tiny slice of time. We aren't able to see into a future in which things may stop existing, nor are we able to see into the past to see if, when, and how the universe began.

Is the trade worth it? Is trading intellectual expansion and free will for happiness a fair one? Are limitations ever worth it?

I personally would answer no to all of those questions, but I think they're worth thinking of.

I've done it all. Everything I could think of to test this whole "God" theory. I used to think people who are religious where morons also (which seems to be the general concensus here). Thats not how i feel now. I dont feel ive lost anything. I havent lost any freedoms. I havent lost any intellectual groundings. Ive lost nothing.

What i have simple found, is that im happier. Not that i wasnt happy before. Im even more so now. Ive stopped doing certain things simply because i find they make me unhappy in the long run.

If you feel like there should be more to your life....your right. there is. Look for it. Everyone path is different....Its the looking that brings you to your answer. Never give up.

PEACE,
