Easter is based on the same time as the Jewish 'Passover' which is set at the time of the first full moon after the equinox.
As that is the time that Christ was crucified that has remained the date for Easter.

Most religious holidays are based on Pagan traditions so don't dwell on the dates too much.

Jesus wasn't born on December the 25th and in all likelihood wasn't crucified when we celebrate Easter either. They're both just celebrations invented to allow Pagans to more easily convert to Christianity, as they coincide with pagan celebrations like the Winter solstice and some fertility celebration I can't remember the name of (that's why rabbits and eggs are symbols of Easter). And coopshire, if the Bible has flaws then isn't it almost by definition - fake? Surely a supreme being wouldn't make such mistakes...

The bible wasn't written by God. And as with pretty much any religious text is open to interpretation. You have to remember that the people who did write the bible lived thousands of years ago when times were different, and so saw certain events in a different light to how we might see them today.
No dates are actually given in the bible also (as far as I am aware). The actual date isn't important, it is the act of remembering that is important - remember that chaps when you forget your anniversary!!!

Christmas is big for the comercial market which is why it is easier if it stays the same each year but at school there was always someone saying that Mary was just 14 & never even met Joseph & that Jesus might have been born in a cave & it could have been the summer ect... Easter is just another holiday in the year but this year it is too close to last Christmas & too far from summer!

One of the great questions!
I always remember this quote from Batman Begins (that great religious film! haha)
"Why do we fall, sir? So that we might better learn to pick ourselves up."
I've found that when you start to look at faith a little deeper and look beyond the exterior that that is when you start to be able to understand questions like yours a little better - albeit from a personal perspective.
When it all comes down to it though, although I have my beliefs I don't know for sure they are right any more than anybody else knows for definite that they are right. I have the benefit of being pretty scientifically minded, and having pretty strong faith. I've had discussions with people who have thrown all the evidence they can at me as to why God doesn't exist, and I have been able to take that evidence and turn it around by raising questions as to why God *may* exist because of that very evidence. When it all comes down to it we will never know the answer for sure until it is too late, but by asking the questions and seeking the answers that is one of the things that can make us stronger people.
Wow, thats a bit deep for a weekend!

I don't have a religious bone in my body but i do believe that having faith and beliefs (whatever they are) are important.
Now pass me another easter egg.
