carl cox would probably say today what he said back when he left hardcore. it is/was too limiting. (don't remember what mag this was in)
most people when you say hardcore they instantly think of a certain bpm not the huge range you could play with in the early 90s
the hardcore he knows is not what you are wanting him to play. also, the hardcore he played back then isn't nearly as popular as house music is now so why should he switch?
most people don't understand hardcore when they hear it. the first thing they hear is a superfast bpm that they don't understand how to dance to. house can be appreciated by almost anyone.

Well, in Belgium (or at least the south of Belgium where the french speakers are) hardcore is completely inexistent. So whenever I'm asked what music I like I emphasize the HAPPY and lower the 'hardcore'. Otherwize people instantly think I listen to some weird porno music.

Uhh no, over here everyone listens to Drum & Bass which is as fast as Hardcore, whenever I showed some Hardcore tracks to some of my friends, they liked it ( were impressed! ) but they never had a prob with the speed.
What kind of Hardcore do you think Coxie likes ? Or would play ? I know it wouldn't be what I want to hear.. it wouldn't be new stuff I guess ? Do you think he listens to Orbit1, Darwin and stuff like that ?

I do. Some people have more eclectic tastes. I can see why he'd rather make house tbh, if i knew enough about it and it's scene i would. I'm already trying out producing it and i love it.

your friends aren't the general public =P more so people old and young can appreciate house were hardcore is mainly for younger people.
this is the kind of hardcore carl cox became famous for playing.

I know Carl cox i remember him playing banging techno/ old school hardcore thats back in like 1998/99
Never know mite see him do hardcore but i rekon probably hardstyle now a days!!!
its really bothers me how everyone is so obsessed with genre names..
CARL COX is one of the best dj's in the world if not the best.. i've seen him over the last 15 years in all manner of places from fantazia to sankeys to gatecrasher..
he always plays a unique set.. (no matter what year..)
when i heard him in 1998.. in sheffield he banged the **** out of gatecrasher when the rest of clubland was dancing to trance.. he was playing 150-155bpm techno records and it was amazing.
carl cox always always plays the most UPFRONT music.. he did back in 1991/2/3 and at this time the most up front sound WAS HARDCORE.. but its fair to say when he abandoned it for techno/house music the producers in these genre's were just making more up front forward thinking music..
to say'lets get carl cox to play hardcore' is like saying lets get him to play a 60's set.. sure he COULD DO IT.. but its unlikely..
however if a hardcore producer makes a record worthy of mr carl cox to play he'll play it..
IT REALLY IS THAT SIMPLE..
if we're all obsessed with BPM counts then we'll get nowhere.. a good track is a good track

Absolutely not. Brian K is right on every point and he's been in the Hardcore scene for long enough (alot longer than us) to know what he is talking about so don't bother trying to argue.

I love Carl Cox, I saw him live like 2 months ago and it was so ****ing good. Every tune he plays is fresh and feels like the perfect choice.
