i'd agree alot of mc's take the piss with how annoyingly unnescesary they are but...
WOTSEE is SO good

MC's are what they are: masters of ceremony. Some are better than others, but they all make sure the crowd is worked up as much as possible. Living in a francophone place, there's no such thing as MCing @ Hardcore events over here. Since not all dj's are as charismatic, it often ensues in short but awkward silences between the end of a set and the beginning of the next one. Let's face it, some dj's just don't have the balls to cheer up the crowd, make it scream and greet the next dj on the decks properly, so I personally find a proper Master of Ceremony helps setting up a strong vibe.

i do agree on that. djs may have some mad mixing skills, but they can have pretty f**kin dull personalities. in a case like that, i see an MC necessary. but i've heard so many live mixes and i have yet to run into an MC that I didn't find too excessive.

Nope, for one here if theres a Hardcore event, its pretty much just freeform. I like some freeform, but not all night. Another one is that i dont really know many that listen (or tolerate) Hardcore, and going out alone isnt really my thing.

Now we have about 400 people to the big Hardcore events in Montreal, when back a few years the attendance could go up to 800 people... The Toronto scene is definitely not the same anymore without Hullabaloo, the reknown events by Anabolic Frolic.
The main harcore resident dj's aren't exactly the same anymore either, but we always get at least one international headliner every year. We've seen Scott Brown, Sharkey, Kevin Energy, Alek Szahala, UFO, Brisk, Sc@r & Uplift, & others I cant remember at the moment :P
I must say I've yet to experience party in Canada like I experienced it in Spain at HTID In The Sun 2007. This was something I definitely want to experience again in 2010.
People definitely don't know what they've got until it is gone. I'm in the same boat as Matricks here and have seen my fair share of parties. Hullabaloo was a freaking excellent vibe and it's hard to get people excited like that for a party because very few are actually hardcore (pun intended) fans.
When we went to HTID In The Sun the experience blew our minds because, for the first time in our lives, we were surrounded by nothing but Hardcore enthusiasts. People that new the tracks like the back of their hand, sang along, and could hold a conversation discussing the genre. On top of that we got to experience MCs! And shit does it make a difference. While some may find them annoying, none can deny the fact that they get the crowd hyped up and it's good to have variety. After all it's the spice of life ;)
I try and go to as many parties featuring Hardcore as much as possible. It helps keep personal interest in the genre alive. Not to mention very few things feel better than dancing furiously to your favorite tunes and singing (read screaming) along like a banshee 8D

This thread reminded me how many people don't have access to a tangible Hardcore scene (tangible as in not Internet oriented). I'm guessing some people have never even heard Hardcore on a serious club sound system? It's definitely something to experience!

Probably true :P
No hardcore scene in Norway, so I came here. Maybe I can spark some interest if I start DJing at festivals or something
