what do you mean by that?
And even ephexis and nervous test pilot make ridiculously fast music, with overly dramatic and cheesy breakdowns! Clearly not bad-ass attitude music. Why so serious? :P
And THIS sounds like they just time-stretched the music during an action scene from the latest star trek. Serious, profound music? not really :P Banging track? of course!

pop, soft indie and rubbish like that
you seem to think that hardcore is a broad genre and that it's all ery similar, when you're wrong. even noobs to the scene like certain types of hardcore which is why darren styles is so successful.

Comon now don't put word in my mouth! I never said it was all very similar. I just said it was all cheesy fast music, and shouldn't be taken too seriously. I know the difference between ephexis and darren styles, don't worry.

when did songs being bad ass come into this?..i mean if your talking about whats bad ass and what isnt - thats down to opinion and a separate conversation.
for instance - i dont think any type of Rock music or Rapis "bad ass" in the slightest, and when i see people listening to heavy metal "wow, thats bad ass and they are sooo cool" is probably the very last thing that goes through my head...

Hardcore is definitely not all cheesy... Most of the mainstream stuff and a fair bit of underground stuff is but there is definitely stuff that isn't.

your still generalising it all though...
its not all cheesy... hardly any of its cheese..
and how on earth does it sound like its from a sci-fi movie? good luck finding ANYTHING similar in any sci-fi stuff! 99% of the stuff it just strings and horns...
quote:it's all retardedly fast and happy music. Even if you've been listening to the genre long enough for that impression to wear off, that is still how 99% of the population would describe it after a first listen. Even the darkest, most intricate Freeform song sounds like a silly sci-fi movie soundtrack rip-off
and wtf at this...

krater sounds nothing like anything that has ever been in star trek lol... it'd probably be used in fan movies on youtube but associationg it with the film is just useless... you could put any song behind a movie clip and think it suits it...

Dude you dissected my post, it's beautiful, but I think it's more a general idea i'm expressing rather than a series of facts waiting to be proved as right or wrong.

Time to stretch my legs... I missed this place!
I'm starting up Sharkey's mix right now (listened to the CDs in reverse order) but I can safely say I was less than pleased with the other two.
As I posted on the Bonkers Facebook fan page:
Hixxy's mix [is] honestly just a haphazard, pop-dripping mess. The cuts (especially between Report to the Bassline and See You on the Other Side) sound like someone being obnoxious with the radio dials, and it doesn't make sense to place a song as mellow as See You on the Other Side in the middle of a mix like that. The transitions are poor, but I feel this is mostly due to the track selection severely lacking in substance. Electric is a great track that can be very cleverly mixed into several others, and Hixxy did not demonstrate its potential by abruptly switching between it and Bodyflow. Hixxy has never been my favorite (I usually associate him with newbies) but this has been a severe letdown. Also... The Theme is probably one of the worst tracks of all time.
As for Chris Unknown's mix, the transitions were better with a bit more entertaining of a track selection. The times where I was truly enjoying myself, I realized, were during Scott Brown's remix of You're Never Gonna Know and the mix of tinny sounds between Welcome to the Trip and the gimmicky Pacman, complimented by DJ Sy's professional scratching. The first four tracks could have easily been substituted for better, more upbeat tracks. Starting off with something as off-the-wall as LMC/U2 and then going to songs as whack as Amigos (which, in my opinion, should not exist) and a sample-filler track like Alabama was like buying Skittles and finding little colored pebbles inside. It looks like hardcore, it's labeled hardcore, but it's just a bunch of crap! And did we NEED new versions of Discoland and Pilgrim? Don't answer that-- we didn't. We really didn't. You know what else we could've done without? Beating the dead horse of Cold as Ice, especially with MC Storm doing the kicking. Good. Lord. The final track, Bring You Down, pretty much summarizes this entire CD.
Despite the other two mixes, I have high hopes for Sharkey. Please, please, please...

Ok, so I have been WELL out of the HC scene for about 6/7 years for whatever reason, but when I saw this new Bonkers CD I bought it just 'for old times sake', and to be honest I'm not disappointed...
For me its a nice 'ease-in' back to the music I used to love... I had the original Bonkers sets up to Bonkers 6, and they were great up till 6... Then I stopped....
Obviously having been out of this for so long, I'm bound to love a lot of stuff until I get into everything again haha....
For now, Bonkers has more than served its purpose for me, as far as I'm concerned...
