Music will come out either its filesharing or not, so if he music industry loses its capitalistic sense, all the people makin music just for money will quit and what we have left is people makin music for music sakes and for arts sake. Its bullhit if u guys think music will stop couse of money will stop. People will always make music. Personally I think its impossible to stop filesharing

Massive tangent: we need a multiple quote function.

I also said "if we're so wrong here", that makes it a different matter.
I never said filesharing is ok, I just mean it's painted as some kind of murder.

I got into hardcore when I was poor, so it's not exactly that I had that much money back then. Now that I got a steady job, I end up buying older tracks/vinyls because, seriously, 90% of the new music from 2007 til today is crap imo (oh wait, I'm starting to sound like 95_was_the_time...)

tbh, I dont think it was ever about stopping it. RIAA just wants to control it, but they couldn't really do that, even if they tried much earlier than napster

I don't think they're trying to stop it either, they're not stupid, they are probably aware they can't stop it, but i do think they are trying to reduce it.

It's the same thing they do here with speeding. They just made speeding fines here a lot heftier recently. I think its 30km/h over the speed limit and it's automatic loss of license. Obviously this won't stop people speeding, but it will reduce it BECAUSE the fines are so hefty.

All they are doing is making examples of people. If they do it continuously then hopefully people will start to realise that it isn't consequence-free.

Well that I can relate to. But filesharing doesn't kill you... atleast not directly. A car crash can.

But loosing a license and having to redo the process of getting one isn't as expensive as this fine for filesharing... atleast not in sweden

No but don't you see? It's not about catching them, it's about making it so NOT worth it the repercussions that they don't try it in the first place.

So many people would be ****ed for their jobs etc if they lose their license from 3 months to a year.

You'd be ****ed for your whole life (unless you got lucky) with a fine like that. Not everyone will get caught, but at the moment the chances of getting caught were 0 and no repercussions.

If it gets to the point that even 1% of people get caught, with that kind of repercussion, i think a lot of people would second-guess their actions.

The RIAA spends millions of dollars and probably hundreds of man-hours in each of these cases. They are obviously show-tactics, as it would be incredibly impractical to sue even 0.01% of all filesharers in this manner.

Plus, they've been doing things such as this for years now... you'd think they'd realize that it doesn't work, right?

well I know the Jamie bust has been dragging for years (4 years?), so I guess most of these cases are old, so most of the fine are actually court and lawyer costs
