Do you think commercial and cheesy is the same? If so, I really disagree.
Some of the greatest classics are godawful childish, and meant to be. There is nothing wrong with that! =P

I prefer the music, but maybe that's because I don't go to raves, I've been a few times and thoroughly enjoyed it, so maybe it's just that I don't go often enough to actually get into the 'scene' itself.

Hmmm, maybe I could have worded it better I guess. I guess mainstream would have been better. If you listen to more mainstream stuff you TEND to hear more cheesy stuff. Some cheese is OK (Dune - I can't stop raving for example), but some of it is awful imo, not mentioneing any names, cough "Scooter" cough.

I enjoy listening to, producing & mixing Hardcore as well as putting on and going to parties. Make of that what you will.

Not that i ever went to real raves (far too young) but this is why i have no interest in most raves anymore (not because of raves themselves). Really dislike club environments generally.
Still loads of "real raves" going on up and down the country mate. Not nearly as big as they used to be but there is always more than one every weekend. **** all on the softer side of Hardcore played mind.

Really? I know Dougal is coming to NYC in December, and I hear of HHC raves in the states once in a while. Maybe it depends on the state?

You'd be loving a fair few of the rigs about these days then tbh mate. It can get a touch cold this time of year though. :P I tend to hide in the clubs during the coldest months then hit the outside/barn/warehouse raves when it warms up a bit.
There is indoor ones in London squats all year round but they can be a bit dodge at times. Last one I went to there was a bloke sat on the stairs with no shoes and trousers because someone mugged him for them. :-/ Blood pissing out his head and everything. Loads of others getting mugged there too.
Get yourself out to some of the countryside ones though for sure.

Got any further details about some of these? I'm in Brighton and Hardcore hardly ever touches down here. I'm not on the underground or whatever, so my only news is a few websites and fliers.
Scene or Music? I dunno really, I'll say both. I love the music, and I'm sure there are lovely people out there who love it too and as long as we have those there's a scene I love even if it is small, you just gotta work on making it better. The US has got it good in some ways I think, S3RL plays at kandyland and Nu Energy stuff, I'd love to be a part of those!
I think unfortunately there is a bit of tension in the scene at the moment, I mean hardcore is going to places like camber sands, which is really cool and all, but I've heard some stories that make me a bit wary, and even if they're not true, it's probably what makes everyone else a bit weary too.
I know a load of people who are really into happy hardcore but they're not exactly rave goers and stuff and a lot of them don't understand the difference between a DJ spinning tracks and a musician playing live. I think if I could get the message of proper happy hardcore out to them, their friends, their friends friends and so on we could really make the scene something really good and happy again.

This surprises me.
I didn't think that was an issue at all in the UK. The flyers and line-ups from UK Hardcore parties I see all the time are ridiculously great compared to anything here in North America, and the crowd shots show thousands of people raving in insane arenas. Isn't that a healthy scene?

Define what you call scene?
In the big picture you can't have one without the other, if one dies they both die.
