And could you say you listen to happy hardcore techno or hardcore techno? Or is thatnot right and it is correct as it is saying happy hardcore or hardcore. I run acroolss people who dont know about styles of hardcore, hardstyle, trance, etc. So i just tell them i listen to techno. Would this be correct or would i have to be specific with the people who dont know. Confusing i know lol thnx

First of all, Techno is an actual genre so it's wrong to refer to anything that is not Techno Techno so yes calling Hardcore Techno is incorrect. 'Happy' Hardcore refers to pre 2000 Hardcore pretty much. The difference in sounds is self evident. Modern Hardcore is anything but happy.

Ehm it's not techno. I find myself quoting this site every week.
Happy hardcore is basically the sound from the 90s (breakbeat influenced, bouncy, over-the-top happy, acids), ie Toytown or 6 Days. [UK] Hardcore, or modern hardcore trance, is what sounds like this or this.

"Electronica" is not a genre, it's just something stupid people have made up.

"Hardcore Techno" is very right because "Hardcore" is actually the abbreviation for "Hardcore Techno". So saying "Hardcore" is like saying "Minmal", which is the abbreviation for "Minimal Techno". So saying "Techno" alone isn't really wrong - it's like answering the question "What genre do you listen to?" with "Techno", and more precisely "Minimal Techno", abbr. "Minimal".
Hardcore (or Hardcore Techno), is a subgenre of Techno (which is actually completely different than Techno because Techno is alwas very minimal, and people confuse stuff like Brooklyn Bounce or Scooter with Techno, but Techno doesn't have such huge synths etc so it's wrong; what they are talking about is Eurodance/Eurotrance/Eurohouse), and Happy Hardcore is therefore a subgenre of Hardcore (which, like I said, is a subgenre of Techno).
So you have:
TECHNO -> Hardcore -> Happy Hardcore
UK Hardcore is just a new term for the same genre (still happy with different elements that make it happy), and the UK just designates where it comes from - like Dutch Hardcore, or Japanese Hardcore. So the name isn't really "UK Hardcore", but simply "Hardcore" from the UK, because most of it actually comes from the UK. You could say "British Hardcore" aswell, if that gives you an idea of what I mean. Just like Scottish Techno.
I hope this makes it clear :)

put it this way... gabba and happy hardcore are styles of hardcore yet sound nothing alike... but to me all styles of hardcore are just hardcore regardless of prefix or country of origin.. the thing is with hardcore the slight change in noise and it has to have a new prefix or as some call it a new "sub genre"... its all hardcore.. and as stated, techno is a complete different genre and even that has numerous sub genres..

Okay, so if I phrase it like this: "That name sucks cause it sounds stupid and it can mean basically ANYTHING, it's not specific at all."

I get what you're trying to say but no... Just no.
Happy/UK hardcore is nothing like techno except maybe the beat pattern.

@ quicksilver electronica has for almost 2 decades (at least in the US) been the word to use to categorize all electronic music genres (house, dnb, hardcore, techno, etc). you're right in that electronica does not describe a specific genre, but using house or techno to describe all of the electronic genres out there makes less sense
and revs your post is just fail on so many levels. so what if that's what it says on wikipedia? they require a source to quote what you're writing, but they don't really require a legitimate source for most of their things

I'm gonna try and stay out of this because I don't care enough but I always thought that it was only known as "Hardcore Techno" to differentiate it from Hardcore Punk which used to be known as "Hardcore" way before the Hardcore we know was around. Even early chicago house had a sub genre known as "hardcore" and that was before the days of Acid.
Also early hardcore didn't have the same beat pattern as techno as it was all breakbeat. Doh!
