hah! i just found the perfect example of generalizing all electronica as techno!

I've been watching the opening/closing ceremonies of the olympics a lot on youtube. did anybody see the opening ceremony of 2006 in torino italy?

well there was a futuristic part in the show where they played "techno" music according to the announcer

not sure if it's actually really techno or not, but this sure as hell probably made the generalization of all electronic music into techno even worse

if u wanna skip over the beginnin and end just to hear the announcer, the exact time is somewhere between 2:55 and 3:10

It's a genre term for general people. It's like describing all toyota's, honda's and mini's as cars.

I listen to so much music, I never tell people I listen to hardcore. I don't have to. I see I listen to punk rock and post rock, which I listen to a lot more than I do hardcore. Still, everyone knows I'm a DJ and that I dig the techno, so they assume and don't ask questions.

I always tell people I listen to HAPPY Hardcore... even though I listen to all subgenres... I don't want people to get confused with Hardcore Metal or anything. When I get asked what Happy hardcore is I tell them "It's a really fast version of what you'd call 'Techno'" (with air quotes over "Techno") If a friend is into electronic music I try to convert them..... but it seldom works!
